MODYLO
Print Profile(1)

Description
Welcome to the MODYLO Ecosystem
MODYLO is a set of standardized components which you can freely combine to build your own project.
Its framework built, on a Unified Diameter and a unified Screwing Mechanism allows you to stack, swap, and reuse parts across storage, lighting, and botanical projects.
What’s in a Name?
Honestly, MODYLO started as my own workshop shorthand. I needed an easy way to organize files and test prints while developing the "Unified DNA" threading. I chose the name to reflect the core of the project—Modularity—as it’s designed to be a living, breathing ecosystem of parts.
Customize, Don't Resize
MODYLO is designed to be adapted, not just scaled. Instead of resizing models in your slicer—which can break the patterns—use the MakerLab Customizer. It allows you to change heights, diameters, and patterns while keeping the mechanical connections perfect. It’s the best way to make the design yours without compromising the engineering (even the logo is customizable).
A Note on Customization Tooling
While MODYLO is built to be fully parametric, I’ve decided to temporarily hold off on enabling the MakerWorld Customizer tool for new uploads. I’ve noticed that the current system doesn't recognize or support models printed this way, which unfortunately impacts how these designs are shared and discovered by others in the community.
I’m still fully committed to the "Customize, Don’t Resize" philosophy and I make sure every model is ready for adaptation. In the meantime, if you need a version with specific dimensions or a different pattern aspect, please just let me know in the comments. I’m more than happy to generate and upload a custom print profile for you.
The components
Foundations & Extensions
These core structural elements share the same threads and can be stacked indefinitely:
- Base & Short Base: The starting points for any stack.
- Sleeve: A hollow extension to add height or change aesthetics mid-build.
- Floored Sleeve: An extension with an integrated floor for separate compartments.
- Lid: A clean, male-threaded element to close your stack.
- Internal Element: Decorative inserts to add a contrasting interior color (coming soon).
Specialized Components
These parts add specific functionality to your MODYLO build:
- Lampshade: A vase-mode top designed for light diffusion.
- Lamp Connector: Houses the Bambu Lab Light Puck and supports the shade.
- Note: Match the lampshade_diameter on both the shade and connector.
- Planter: A specialized module for soil and greenery.
- Flytrap Lid: A functional lid with a funnel designed to catch fruit flies. (coming soon)
Aesthetics (Styles)
Pick your "flavor" and customize the intensity:
- Smooth: Minimalist and clean.
- Aeolian: Organic design featuring fluid, wind-swept waves for dynamic light diffusion.
- Ryokan: A parametric homage to traditional lanterns, featuring rhythmic horizontal ridges with adjustable depth.
- Vertex: A sophisticated, multi-faceted design featuring a dense triangular tessellation for a crystalline light effect.
- Basalt: Rugged, industrial geometry inspired by volcanic columns with a deep hexagonal honeycomb texture.
- Stacked: A generative, asymmetrical style where layers shift independently based on a randomizer seed—no two versions are exactly alike.
- Wave: Organic, rhythmic ribbed waves.
- Ribbed / Rounded Rib(coming soon): Classic vertical fluting (Sharp or Soft).
- Hexa / Hexa Prism(coming soon): Architectural and industrial geometric patterns.
- Prism: Geometric debossed diamond matrix.
- Knurled: Rugged, technical texture.
Getting started
MODYLO can seem complex with all its parts, but the logic is simple. Here is how to create your first build, from configuration to printing.
Explore Existing Models (The "Look & Learn")
The best way to understand MODYLO is to see how the elements connect. Don't reinvent the wheel for your first project. Browse the established model collections and examine their pre-configured stacks:
- Check the Lamp Series: See how a [Smooth Base] connects to a [Lamp Connector] to hold a [Lampshade].
- Check the Planter Series: Look at how an [Planter] is placed inside a [Oscilla Sleeve].
- Check the Storage Series: Examine how a [Short Base] combines with a [Floored Sleeve] and a [Lid].
The Best Way to Learn: Use the MakerLab Customizer on one of these existing models to view the parts individually. This is the fastest way to understand which component is which and how the parametric scaling works and how it impacts the aesthetics of the component.
Build Your Core Stack
Once you understand the basic components, you can configure your own stack:
- Start with a Base (Foundation).
- Add height or features (Extensions like Sleeves).
- Finish the stack (Lid, Planter, or Lampshade).
Print and Assemble
When you generate your custom print profile:
- Walls: Use Arachne for structural components (Bases, Sleeves, Lids, Connectors) to ensure a precise, smooth thread fit.
- Lampshade (Crucial): Always print lampshades in Vase Mode (Spiralize Outer Contour).

One Aesthetic, Infinite Possibilities
You’ll notice a high number of MODYLO models published here on MakerWorld. This is by design! Rather than hiding everything in a single, complex file, I’ve broken the ecosystem down by aesthetic (Smooth, Ribbed, Tessela, etc.) and component. This makes it much easier for you to find the specific "look" you want and jump straight into the MakerLab Customizer. You can focus on adapting one component with one style at a time to your exact needs, ensuring a smooth experience from configuration to final print (links coming soon).
