Description

Introducing The Secret Word, an entertaining two-player word search game that combines strategic thinking with vocabulary skills! This tabletop game brings the thrill of word guessing on games like you'd find online into a face-to-face format that's perfect for game nights, classrooms, or casual play. One player becomes the word master, creating a secret five-letter word, while the other player attempts to deduce it through clever guessing and deductive reasoning. With each guess, colored pegs provide crucial clues, creating an engaging battle of wits that everyone will enjoy.

Game Components

  • 1 Game Board with integrated peg slots
  • 1 Privacy Shield (for hiding the secret word)
  • 1 Letter Tray (nestable design - print multiple for convenience)
  • Green Score Pegs (for correct letter, correct position)
  • Yellow Score Pegs (for correct letter, wrong position)
  • “Word Guessing Game” Letters (These can now be printed or purchased separately, see recommended kit below)

Non-Printed Components

We recommend using standard “word creation game” tiles for this game or using the provided letter print profile. For the optimal experience, we suggest getting our following Amazon kit that comes with 500 letters (5 sets of 100 letters): https://amzn.to/3ZvHaFZ

If you would like the nesting trays to snap together, consider using 5x2mm magnets in the provided holes, similar to our Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3OUcbgV

Pro tip: We recommend having 3 letter sets total - 2 for the guesser and 1 for the word master. This prevents any clever players from deducing the secret word by counting available letters... ask us how we know! 😅

Game Setup

  1. Snap the privacy shield onto the game board.
  2. Position the game board between two players.
  3. Distribute letter trays and “word creation game” tiles. The game works the fastest if you organize the letters alphabetically in the trays. Some of the less common letters will need to share a tray, or you can print multiple stacking trays.
  4. Word master selects and places their secret 5-letter word behind the shield.
  5. The guessing begins!

How to Play

  1. The guesser attempts to solve the secret word, placing their guess using  “word creation game” tiles.
  2. After each guess, the word master provides feedback using the colored pegs:
    • Green peg: Correct letter in the correct position.
    • Yellow peg: Correct letter in the wrong position.
  3. The guesser gets up to 6 attempts to solve the word.
  4. Players can keep score over multiple rounds and switch roles.

Game Variations

  • Speed Round: Add a timer for each guess.
  • Team Play: Form teams and collaborate on guesses.
  • Educational Mode: Limit words to specific categories or vocabulary lists.
  • Progressive Challenge: Start with 4-letter words and work up to 6-letter words.

Design Intent

We wanted to create a social word game, similar to the popular online word guessing game, that brings people together face-to-face while exercising vocabulary and deductive reasoning skills. The design focuses on simplicity and reusability, leveraging standard  “word creation game” tiles for a premium feel without the need to print hundreds of letters. The nestable letter trays and sturdy shield design ensure this game will be a lasting addition to your collection.

Feedback As with any new game design, we would love to hear your feedback on how we can update the actual printed design to continue making it fun and engaging. Post your build photos, give us a download, and if you want to see more cool projects, give a boost! 🚀

I love this. I am itching for my magnets to arrive for the lid. I wasn't happy with the letter tiles so I made some based on the original tiles that have a cleaner look and I am in the process of finishing off a set with lowercase tiles too as I try to use them with my kids in an attempt to reinforce that capitals are only for pronouns and names and the beginning of a sentence... OR YELLING 😆

I have a few suggestions for improvements to this set. 1. Make the cover attachments stronger (2-3 x thicker or reinforced). those little loops snap off very very easily. 2. Design the holder with 26 sections for the letter tiles, instead of 21. I've had to double-up JK, PQ, UV, WX, and YZ. Otherwise, I love this set. thanks!

Great game for my kids an myself :). would also love to see 1 row more for the letters. Maybe the pins could have 1 box instead of 2.

@rachele819 We've added a print profile for the alphabet tiles, but it may require some work to determine the best number of letters to print for optimal game play. You can also customize the fonts used in the OpenSCAD customize button if you would like a different font.

Hasbros 'Hangman' from the 80s would be a good game to copy the amount of letters needed. They always had enough letters.

This is really super. At the moment I'm printing the parts. In my opinion (and I beg your pardon if it sounds like critic) it would be even more perfekt if the game plate could be used as a lid. As far as I can see it in bambu studio it would fit, if there would be a second letter tray with two holes where the 'ears' of the game plate fit in when it is set on (upside down) as a lid. When the dividing wall between the two compartments for the pins is taken away and the two pins at the shield would be taken to the outside the shield would fit into this compartment if it is printed slightly narrower. Then everything would fit into two letter trays and the game plate as lid. Then it could be stored with a rubber band to hold the lid on top. I hope you understand what I mean and are not angry over this suggestions. I beg your pardon for my poor english too.

Also love this print. Thank you. I also agree with @contentlevel and @user_4120285195 , replacing that 1 row of the pins with 3 letter boxes would be nice so we do not have to combine too much different letters. It is also a bit hard to get the pins in the wholes. I resized them to 97% to make them fit easier so they don't get stuck. For the tiles, the openscad script seems to print the letter way to early on the layers, so it has unneeded color swaps. Also the top layers should be 2 layers as the letter color bleeds through the tile layer. I made a new script on parametricModelMaker for it but not sure how to save it on makerworld so i can share it.

thanks for the insight and boosts. Feel free to upload those tiles as a print profile, or if you’d like for me to add the updated script, just provide it and I’ll update it. if it’s all new code, just upload it to your profile and I’ll link it in the description. cheers,

Love the game design and the model! I printed all the letter pieces too, thanks to both contributors below this model! Much fun to play, more than Wordle itself. Wish the base box would be able to fit 10 pieces of every letter though, that's my current amount of letter pieces for the guesser. Also, I didn't want to print the whole thing again for the game master (who makes up the word) as that's quite some more filament. Right now I'm using a bag and slightly differently colored letter pieces for the game master but I wish it was a box fitting to the base one (and I'm too inexperienced in Fusion to rework it myself). Still a great model! :)
