Description

I wanted a 3D printable version of the Secret Hitler board game that stayed true to the original design, so I created this set using the game’s original artwork, with all components fitting neatly into a compact box.

Each card has front and back artwork and there are 10 unique secret role cards. In the original game there are three different Fascist boards each used for different player counts, but for my version I designed two add-on modifier pieces for the Fascist board, which you can easily place on top the board for 7-8 and 9-10 player games.

I've also created the Secret Hitler XL Communist Expansion! Check it out here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1052392#profileId-1039379

Contents:

  • Liberal Board
    • Bambu PLA Matte Dark Blue
    • Bambu PLA Basic Cyan

I recommend using matte filaments! The thin, dual-sided nature of the cards means that it is likely you will be able to see through to what is on the other side using standard filaments, the opacity of matte filaments are able to prevent this. I used Overture Matte PLA Light Brown (pictured) and achieved full opacity.

A clean build plate is a must for adhesion. The designs have a lot of fine details, so make sure to wash your build plate with dish soap and hot water before each print.

For highest detail use a 0.2 mm nozzle, but everything can be safely printed with a 0.4 mm nozzle. (Pictured printed with 0.4mm nozzle: Ballot cards, Secret Role cards, Party Membership cards, President and Chancellor placards, Discard & Draw placeholders, and the Game Box. Pictured printed with 0.2mm nozzle: Liberal board, Fascist board, Fascist board mods, and Policy cards.)

Updates:

  • 1/28/2025 - Improved layer settings for better coloring on the cards
  • 1/6/2025 - Removed black base to the boards to solve color bleeding issue
  • 12/2/2024 - Increased tolerance on the placards for easier installation of the legs
  • 12/2/2024 - Updated print profile to add additional holes for magnets on the boards with increased tolerance

We love what you've made here! The Secret Hitler Team does have a few questions though. And don't worry, we're not going to ask you to take it down. Please email us at secrethitlergame@gmail.com to discuss! - Maya, Community Manager

edit: finished printing now and the game looks ready to go! looking forward to playing it next week holiday and christmas! thank you for the print!! This model is so awesome! I’m printing it right now and it’s mostly completed but one thing I noticed was that once the storage box was filed with the 4 part boards to the top, it’s really hard to take out without flipping container upside down. is there a way to modify this so it’s easier to take out the contents inside?

So what works for me is you can push all the boards down in one corner (where the placards are) and they all lift up so you can easily grab them, give that a try and let me know how it is!

ah okay. that does work for me except sometimes the very bottom board doesn’t like to pop up all the way for me to grab. it’s just a minor inconvenience. thank you so much for this model!!

Excellent model, almos a replica one to one to the real game, need some fix for the black bleeding and the card transparency giving away the roles if you don't use the enveloppe ! And it was kinda a pain to remove the support from the box It's improvable !

Glad you like it! I'm looking for a fix to the black bleeding, if anyone finds anything please let me know! I will be uploading a new print profile without the black on the bottom of the boards soon as a semi-fix

I am only 1 month into 3D printing but i guess you would need to make the black part only on the outer schell and the inner of the board to the red/blue color for that bleeding not to be seen I would gladly try to do that but i need to learn some stuff first (btw how did you paint everything ?)

I painted everything in BambuStudio, there is a setting in there to paint all the parts with the filament colors you add to the print profile

I think it turned out wonderfully (although I will be switching policies to white background in the near future). Big thanks to JungyBrungy

@JungyBrungy Your work here inspired me to try and create some other games. Could you briefly tell me what software you used to convert the PDF resources to cards?

Replying to @MakerspaceSRB :
I use a combo of things! First I take the pdf and export each page out as jpeg's, then I convert those to .svg files using Adobe's .svg converter (it's free online), then I use a program called Figma (also free) to edit the .svg vectors to be cleaner, and then I import those .svg files into Fusion 360 to 3D model the cards.

Looks like you need to reassign your filaments to each color to match each piece. I'm not sure whats in your AMS but in the second image you have it set to A3, A2, A3, A1, so make it the same for the other half of the board

I've never used thermo active filament before so not sure, but if it's darker I don't see why not

I love that I can print the entire game! This felt like it took me a pretty long time to print, as I was printing 2 at the same time, but I think it turned out amazing! Thanks for such an awesome print. I played it last night with friends and had the best time!

I purchased the exact color filaments you used (on the Black Friday Holiday Sale at BambuLab), and it's so beautiful. Pressing on the President/Chancellor placard side of the box, immediately allows a finger under the boards to remove them from the box, and the box is so beautifully compact and well designed. I love the colors and the use of the magnets to hold the boards together. I initially was sticking Ballot cards in with the Party Membership and Secret Role cards, but found that the spot in the box for Ballot cards had already been thought out, and it wasn't necessary to "stress" the envelopes with 4 cards instead of 2. I've liked and boosted you. Awesome job!

Printed great only issue is getting the boards out of the box, I think I would have liked to seen a groove in the box to allow the ability to lift out the boards without tipping everything out.

Something you can try that I've recommended to others to get the boards out easier is to push down on the corner of the boards where the placards are underneath, and then the other side will lift up where you can easily grab them.

I tried to print the first sheet with 100% infill, 0,2 mm nozzle and had issues where you are able to tell if it is red or blue on the other: 1. Since the coloring is not clear cut, you get layers that are not correct with wrong colors that bleeds through. 2. The default profile have 15% infill and purge to infill that might make the bleed more visible? One simple solution might be to make the middle layers black. But would be better to create propper objects. Where did you get the images?

This is an expected problem with prints that are thin and double sided, a filament with great opacity is required for best results. I used Overture Matte PLA Light Brown and had no issues with bleed through, I highly recommend matte filaments for this. I can definitely remove purge into infill on the profile so thanks for bringing that to my attention, I chose that setting for the boards but can see how it wouldn't be best for the cards.

I'm creating new cards from bottom up that don't have any "expected problems".

@Erik00 hey, do I understand correctly that you only rotate the cards before printing and this solved the transparency issues?
