Description

After designing a couple sets of glasses for the 2024 contest here and here, it was clear how much effort it can take to design these things. I wanted to make it possible for people to put their own designs on glasses easily without having to have lots of modeling skills or spend hours at the computer frustrated. To enable this, I created these “diorama glasses” that provide you with a blank that you can customize with text or really any sort of SVG or model on top of the blank. You can use Bambu's Make My Sign tool here to easily create something to merge into the template.

You can use simple tools like the ones built into Bambu or PrusaSlicer to emboss SVGs and Text onto the blank to make custom design. I provide one example presliced with a “2024 Dragon” design here.

When the contest is over, I'll release my fully parametric Fusion360 Design for these glasses for even more customization.

Assembly

Assembles in a couple easy steps. Tolerances built into the print already.

  • The arms should press-fit into the holes. After fitting, you may wish to remove them and add a touch of superglue to lock them in place (optional).
  • The plaque has two little alignment tabs that should fit in the frame holes.
    • The fit/match is intentionally tight, but the tolerances have been tested extensively with PLA/PETG work great. I recommend a small drop of glue in the hole in the frame, aligning the plaque and whacking the tabs in place from the back with some blunt hammer blows to seat the plaque. Allow it to set , and you're all good!
