Description

Introduction

Gridfinity 1x1x3 bins were some of the first things I printed when I got my first 3D printer - it was slow and looked like ass but it was amazing to watch. Fast forward to today, I managed to recreate that experience with these vase mode bins in a fraction of the time and material! And if I may say so myself, they look a LOT better.

These are one-piece fast printing economic spiral vase mode bins for general storage:

  • Ribs on side walls add a touch of flair while significantly increasing the wall stiffness without adding much material
  • 6 height sizes: 3u, 4u, 5u, 6u, 9u and 12u (1u is the stacking height of 7mm)
  • With and without a label-shelf (6.5mm wide label shelf designed for 6mm labels)
  • Stackable
  • Visually perfect: no seams, no infill showing through and no steps from wall thickness changes!

Materials

  • PLA works great for all parts.
  • PETG translucent and other translucent materials work great too!

Print Tips

As usual - all parts print easily without supports, have easy overhangs and easy bridging. However, there are still a few considerations to make a nice part:

  • The bins are printed in spiral vase mode. If you download the profile and change printer, check your settings! As of November 2025, changing the printer in Bambu Studio doesn't transfer all of the relevant settings across. Check especially the following:
    • “Spiral vase mode” is enabled - accept the suggested changes when turning it on
    • Important: “Outer Wall” line with should be 0.8 mm, using a different value will change the stacked bin height slightly (this prints fine on a 0.4mm nozzle)
  • To make clear(ish) bins with translucent PETG, print hot (260-270° C) with low cooling (10-30%, depends on your printer). The speed should already be capped by “Layer Time” in the filament profile.
  • Print by Object to print more than one spiral vase mode part at a time like so (you should be able to fit many more than this if you edit the machine settings in the slicer for less conservative clearances):

Print Profiles

Two print profiles are available at launch but feel free to add more:

  • 0.4 mm Nozzle - 0.8 mm Line Width - 0.25mm Layer
  • 0.6 mm Nozzle - 0.8 mm Line Width - 0.25mm Layer

Note that half of the bins in the pictures were printed with a 0.4 mm nozzle, and despite the wide line width, it prints fine and are indistinguishable from the ones printed using a 0.6 mm nozzle!

Further Resources

Check out this Gridfinity collection for some of my other Gridfinity models and the Gridfinity subreddit for inspiration.

If you need bigger bins, these “Hybrid Vase Mode" bins are in the same style:

If you want regular 1x1 bins, you can check out this variant that prints in regular mode:

Also, you can use these test strips to tune your filament profile for your specific filament and printer!

Changelog

15/11/2025 - Initial release with 6 bin sizes in label-shelf and non-label options, with a 0.4mm nozzle print profile and a 0.6mm nozzle print profile.
