You should consider increasing the thickness of the disc and the lines. It will work for me if I'm careful but the kids will probably break these if you don't increase the thickness a little...
Check out the Twist Art models by THIMM1 if you want to see a nice version that are suitable for kids. He has done some with thicker drawing lines for small children. Most kids don't use mechanical pencils and the thin gaps are hard to use.
