Yes, you are seeing it right! A 3D playable Catan Globe!

This is the PolyPanel version of my Catan Globe. This prints and assembles easier than the magnetized version, but it has some finnicky friction fits for the play pieces. The magnetized versions play is far superior but the assembly is a project and a half. If you are up for it I recommend it over this PolyPanel version. You need a lot of magnets though. And a lot of patience:

And otherwise this PolyPanel version is the perfect version for you!

You only need something that is about 10mm in diameter as the axle (I recommend a 10mm metal tube or rod-end) and other than that everything is printed! Make sure you have good bed adhesion for the play pieces though.

After that, click them together to form the globe, my configuration is just an example. Make sure the pieces are snug together though otherwise you might have some trouble snapping the streets on or having Sydney fall out of Australia.

For the gameplay you need settlers of Catan for all the other components.

The gameplay is almost exactly the same, except you now have pentagons. Our rule is that no two villages of the same color can be next to each other but ONE instance of two different colored villages can be next to each other on a pentagon-hexagon edge. Three villages is still the maximum for all tiles.

Trading is done at the trading islands/harbors. Instead of a number token you place a 1:2 arrow in the center. You can rotate these so the points point at two nodes on the hexagon or pentagon. The 1:3 is placed insice a water piece. The other water piece functiones as a desert tile.

It can be helpful to keep track of your resources and the numbers associated to them on a piece of paper, because you can not see the complete globe at once.

Any other gameplay adaptations are at your own judgement, but we have been playing this for at least six years now and it seems kind of balanced!
