The Architect’s Approach to Modular Storage.

The Daedalus Drawer System redefines Gridfinity storage. Each drawer integrates Gridfinity slots directly inside, eliminating the need to print separate baseplates. The drawer box assembly stacks seamlessly — Gridfinity bins attach below, and a baseplate locks on top — creating a fully extensible modular tower that you can stack with more drawers or other Gridfinity organizers. For swappable drawer faceplates, see Daedalus Plus below.

The Vorion pattern cut into the drawer face and receiver perimeter adds a distinctive architectural aesthetic inspired by Daedalus, the mythic engineer. Every detail is precision‑tuned for makers who value both function and form.

Includes:

  • Stackable receiver assembly with Gridfinity baseplate top + bin bottom
  • Drawer with integrated internal Gridfinity layout
  • Three nameplate options:
    • Debossed nameplate attachment
    • Interchangeable removable nameplate system
    • Blank nameplate

Here is how the drawers are measured:

Width and length are measured in Gridfinity squares (2-5), and the height is a derived number based on the Gridfinity bin height and the pocket depth (in mm).

Each 3MF file contains:

  • Drawers and drawer boxes for drawers of a single width. For example, one 3MF will provide all combinations of drawers of width 2, and another of width 3, etc.
  • Drawers and drawer boxes of lengths 2, 3, 4, 5.
  • Drawers and drawer boxes of pocket depth 1", 1.5", 2", 2.5", and 3".
  • Three types of nameplates: blank, debossed with inset color, and replaceable.

This results in each file containing many plates across all lengths and the intent is to provide as much flexibility and utility as possible.

The height of each instance is measured as the sum of the Gridfinity base height plus pocket depth. The pocket depth is the height of the drawer above the Gridfinity baseplate and is the usable height inside the drawer. The drawers in the 3MF files are represented in pocket depth to keep things simple.

The largest drawer and drawer box is 5x5x3 (5 Grids wide, 5 Grids long, and 3" pocket depth) and maxes out what a 256x256 mm plate can support.

Daedalus Plus

I recognized that the best way to get the Voronoi pattern colored into the drawer was to print the drawer on its end, which generated a lot of support. So I added a second drawer design, called Daedalus Plus, that features a replaceable faceplate. Print any face design flat on your build plate — no supports, no wasted filament, no long print times. Swap designs whenever you change what's inside, or just when you feel like it. A blank template and sample designs are included to get you started, and the slot-fit system means any community faceplate design will drop right in. Daedalus Plus only changes the drawer itself – the drawer receiver/box remains unchanged so Daedalus Plus drawers work with the original Daedalus drawer receiver/box.

Printing tips:

  • Daedalus (not Plus): Supports are enabled by default, but you can reliably print without supports – they are mostly used for printing the Gridfinity squares vertically.
  • If you have problems with warping with large straight prints, I recommend using glue or at least keeping the print away from the chamber fan. I have a fan diffuser on my P2S that keeps things nice and straight, but in general I use glue on larger prints just to be sure.
  • PLA works fine for most household applications. I recommend using something tougher (PLA+ or PETG) if using in a more demanding environment, like a garage or workshop.

Please let me know what you think! I tend to design these items for my own use, but hope that you may find it useful too.

We love to see your creations and how you use ours. Please share pictures :)
