Wrench Racers - New Strategy Board Game
Print Profile(5)

Bill of Materials
Description

Wrench Racers is a fast-paced, strategic tile-laying game where players race to connect their pipeline from their corner of the board to the center. Players use a variety of pipe tiles—straight, elbow, tee, and cross—along with special blocker pieces to outsmart their opponents. The game blends tactical thinking with light-hearted competition, offering both offensive and defensive strategies. With simple rules and fast game play, it's a great addition to game night. With every turn, players must decide whether to build their own network of pipes or disrupt their rivals, all while racing to be the first to complete the connection to the center.

Components
- 1 Game Board
- 4 Sets of Player Pieces (one color per player)
- 4 Tile Stands
- Pipe Tiles (straight, elbow, tee, cross and blockers)
- 1 Die
- 1 soft bag for pipe tiles to make the tile draw more random, like Scrabble - here is an example from our Amazon link: https://amzn.to/3AgfDyn
- 16 2.6x8mm Self tapping screws from Maker's Supply or equivalent.
Gameplay Setup
- Place the game board in the center, with four players seated at each corner.
- Each player receives a set of 5 random pipe tiles drawn from the shared pile.
- The game begins with each player starting their pipe from their corner of the board. The youngest player will roll first, each person will take turns going clockwise.
- Players take turns rolling the die to determine their action.
Gameplay Instructions - Original Rules - 2-4 Players

- Turn Order:
- On a player's turn, they roll the die to determine their action. Based on the result, they can:
- Place Two Tiles: Choose two tiles from their hand and place them on the grid, continuing from their existing pipe network or blocking their opponents.
- Place One Tile: Choose one tile from their hand and place it on the grid.
- Skip a Turn: Unfortunately, they lose a turn and take no action.
- Remove an Opponent’s Tile: Select one tile from an opponent’s network and remove it, creating a gap they must later fill.
- On a player's turn, they roll the die to determine their action. Based on the result, they can:
- Placing Tiles:
- Players can place tiles only if they connect to their existing pipeline. They may place the tiles on any open square within the grid.
- Tiles can be rotated to fit the player's desired direction.
- Players must connect their pipeline from their starting corner to the center of the board.
- Special Actions:
- Blocker tiles can be placed to obstruct an opponent's route, forcing them to reroute. However, blockers cannot fully prevent an opponent from continuing their pipeline—they must leave at least one possible route available.
- Drawing New Tiles:
- After placing a tile or tiles, the player draws from the shared bag of tiles until they have 5 tiles in hand.
- If a player’s hand is full of unusable tiles (e.g., no fitting shapes), they may discard and redraw once per turn.
Winning the Game:
- The first player to successfully connect their pipeline from their starting corner to the center of the board wins the game. They must have a continuous, unbroken path of pipes leading from their corner to the center tile.
Special Rules
- No Deadlock: Blocker tiles cannot be placed in such a way that an opponent has no possible moves between their current network of pipes and the end tile.
- No Self-deadlock: Players cannot place a piece on the board in a way that blocks them from continuing their path (Where a pipe ends against a wall or against another pipe).
⚠️ Caution: Please keep small game pieces away from small children.
Alternate Game Rules
If you come up with new game rules or would like to see other type of tiles added, please drop a comment. If you would like to make your own custom tile pieces, we've included the customizable tile maker using Make My Sign.
- Customizable Difficulty - Adjust the challenge level by modifying the tile distribution. For an easier game, include more versatile pieces like four-way connectors. For a harder experience, increase the number of straight pipes and blocking tiles. You can also add or remove special action spaces on the board.
- Two Player Sprint - In this variation, players start in opposite corners and race to connect their pipeline to a single end piece placed on the far edge of the board. This creates a longer, more strategic path and works great for both 2 individual players or 2 teams working together.

Assembly
Assembly is simple with just 12 screws needed and it all goes together quickly. Just connect the two halves of the legs together with the self-tapping screws. Once all four of the legs are together, flip the main game board upside down and proceed to connect the legs through the color corner pieces into the provided pilot holes.

Design Intent
We've carefully crafted each component to ensure smooth gameplay and durability, making it a game you'll return to time and time again. If you just want to try out the game, but don't want to commit as much filament and time, feel free to just print out the game board and the tiles if you want to give it a try. The other pieces just make the experience that much more fun and adds additional style to the game that is also a conversation piece when having friends and family over for game night.
