Description

A fully 3D printable, modular, foldable metric ruler designed for maximum flexibility and printability. The ruler reaches up to 241 cm total length, divided into 12 individual segments, allowing you to print only the length you need.

 

Each segment is fully compatible and connects into a foldable system, making it easy to store, transport, and expand later.

 

Important notes on accuracy:


This ruler has been tested in PLA prints and works well for general and rough measurements. However, as a 3D-printed tool, it is not a precision measuring instrument. Accuracy may vary depending on printer calibration, filament properties, and layer consistency. It is best suited for hobby and general-use measuring rather than engineering-grade applications.

 

In practical use, the design feels most reliable and convenient up to approximately 141 cm (7 segments), though the full 12-part version is included for users who want to experiment with longer configurations.

Variants

  • Thicker version: More robust and forgiving during assembly
  • Thinner version: More compact, but requires more careful assembly

For the thinner version, applying a drop of superglue to the screws during assembly is mandatory to ensure long-term stability. For the thicker version, it is optional but strongly recommended.

Printing Recommendations

  • PLA tested successfully
  • Two-color printing is recommended:
    • Bottom layers: Light color (numbers and markings)
    • Top layers: Darker color for contrast and readability
  • You can fine-tune readability using the “top paint penetration layers” setting:
    • Lower value → milder contrast
    • Higher value → stronger, more visible markings

Assembly Notes

  • Modular design with screw-based connections
  • Ensure consistent tightening across all segments for best alignment
  • Use glue for secure long-term durability (especially thin version)
