The Bottled Hearth — Alchemist’s Hut (28 mm)
The path slips into green hush, and there—perched on a mossy rise—squats a cottage that looks like it was poured rather than built. Stone blocks stack like corks, the roof is a ladder of slate shingles, and thick alchemical “vines” grip the eaves as if the house has grown its own ribs. From the crooked chimney, shaped like the neck of a great glass bottle, a puff of smoke blooms into a soft cloud that smells faintly of rosemary, iron, and rain on warm slate.
Windows blink with amber light. Every so often a shadow crosses them—round-shouldered, busy, and humming out-of-tune—followed by the tink of glass and the sigh of bellows. A wooden placard hangs by the door: KNOCK IF YOUR NEED IS HONEST. Beneath it, someone has scratched smaller letters: and bring a clean spoon.
The ground around the hut is littered with clues: a runed stopper half-sunk in moss; a splash of iridescent stain that never quite dries; footprints that start boldly and fade to nothing, as if the traveler finished their walk as mist. On quiet evenings the bottle-chimney coughs three little smoke rings—omens, people say. One ring means a curative is ready. Two means a bargain can be struck. Three? Best go home before the forest starts listening.
Set this on your table as a hedge-wizard’s shop, a waystation for desperate cures, or the secret heart of a potion-run quest. Adventurers who enter rarely leave empty-handed… though they may leave slightly more translucent than they arrived.
