Description

This is my latest music box design (Version 3). The main change is the way the handle drives the music cylinder. It now uses reduction gears to achieve a consistent rotation speed. This means you can turn the handle continuously without needing to control the speed, unlike the previous versions. This should be very helpful for some people.

I have created 24 music boxes, and over time, I've compiled a lot of questions people have encountered with these models. With this new version, I have decided to address these questions in a Q&A format. If you are one of these people, I hope this helps you solve your issues.

Q: Are there any assembly or performance videos for the music box?

A: After printing is complete, please apply lubricant to the areas indicated by the red arrows in the picture below before you begin assembly.

Then watch the full video I provided, “From Assembly to Play
(Please note that in this video, I used PETG to print the comb, so the tone may be different from one printed with PLA+.

Compared to PLA+, the benefit of using PETG to print the comb is that it's less likely to be damaged by continuous playing. However, a small drawback might be that the sound is not as loud as with PLA+.)

Q: The part dimensions don't fit, and I can't assemble it.
A: The tolerances I've set for my designs are based on the filament I use. Since everyone uses different filaments, their shrinkage rates also vary. Some of you might encounter dimension issues, so please scale the part dimensions up or down according to the situation you encounter.

Q: When I turn the handle, the gear part breaks.
A: Before assembly, please apply lubricant as indicated in the picture. Any type of lubricant will work, as long as it helps with lubrication.

Q: Why isn't the assembled music box as loud as the sound in your video?
A:
1. The most important core component of this music box is the comb. I recommend that you first print the comb separately, then use the following method to check its sound production. Once you confirm the sound is correct, then print the other parts.

2. When printing the comb, you should avoid using filaments that are too soft (like Bambu Basic or lite) or matte filaments. Additionally, besides PLA+, I also recommend PETG filament if you have it available.

3. After being played a few times, one or more of the comb's teeth may have developed subtle deformations or cracks. This can be seen from the side of the comb (as shown in the photo). Therefore, please always check that the comb is in its best condition.

Q: Can I use types of filament other than PLA+, such as PETG or ABS?
A: I have only used PLA+ so far. Other than the comb, for which I recommend using a harder PLA+ or PETG, any filament should be fine for the other parts.

Q: During the printing process, the part detached or shifted on the print bed, causing a print failure.
A: Adhesion issues are not caused by this design. Please clean your print bed or calibrate your printer first.

---------------------------------END OF QUESTIONS

Okay, besides the issues mentioned above, if you have any other questions, please let me know. It's recommended to include photos and a description, as this will help me understand your problem as quickly as possible and figure out how to help you solve it.
