Threaded Box for Erasable Gel Pens with Lid

by now, everyone surely has some…

I'm talking about erasable gel pens, such as those from the well-known brand Legami*

Children love using them in school, and we also really enjoy using them because they are simply super practical

For children, it has also become a fun little collecting hobby, as there are so many great designs and colors available

So, I gave it some thought and sat down at Fusion 360 to design a cover for the pens, so they can be easily bundled and safely carried in a backpack or school bag. Similar to a pencil case

I wanted to create a slim, practical box for the pens that also reflects the child-friendly design of these pens

The result is finally a large pen (18cm high, possibly varying depending on the design) with a screw cap (35cm diameter) that can hold 5 erasable gel pens and a spare refill in the middle

I conducted several test prints to achieve the best result with comparably low print time

Therefore, I recommend keeping my settings and orientation in the slicer

For the body, I was able to save about half the print time by controlling color changes via pauses instead of the paint bucket for the AMS

So, don't be surprised if you open the file and the body is initially white. Just slice it, and you'll get 3 colors. Therefore, an AMS would not necessarily be required for this

The screwable lid, however, requires an AMS to print it in multiple colors

It's also possible that you may need to remove or clean some loose layers from the thread in the lid because it is printed without supports

I also tried tree supports, but unfortunately, they couldn't be removed without damaging the thread

You can also support it with normal supports; if you know how to approach it, this support can be easily twisted out of the thread by gripping it with pliers. I also tried this – it worked surprisingly well. Feel free to check out my GIF for this

So, feel free to experiment a bit with the supports and find the solution that seems best for you

You may also need to move the thread a few times to get it to go on smoothly

On the white eraser part, a small support scar might form after printing, but it can be easily smoothed out with some sandpaper

I advise against positioning the pen upside down because this would require supports for each of the 5 holes, which would increase the print time again. But feel free to decide for yourself

Currently, only 2 cool designs are available: Giraffe and Shark

The print times of the profiles vary depending on the number of colors and thus more frequent color changes

If I see that the demand is worthwhile, I will also upload more child-friendly animal designs
