Cartoon Kid – MakerLab is a stylized figurine born from an experimental exploration of AI tools applied to 3D creation. (To push the concept to the maximum, it is ChatGPT who writes this description ;) )
🧠 Creative process:
This character was first imagined using ChatGPT, which generated a custom cartoon-style image.
The image was then imported into MakerLab (MakerWorld’s “Image to 3D Model” tool), which produced a .obj file.
🎨 Manual post-processing:
The raw model was corrected, split, and refined in Nomad Sculpt to:
- Improve proportions
- Clean up artifacts from the AI generation
- Prepare a part layout optimized for FDM printing
🖨️ Print optimization:
The model is not printable in one piece without supports, but the intelligent part separation allows for:
Faster printing
- Better color management using a single AMS
- Clean assembly with minimal post-processing
- Final assembly is done using glue
🔬 This project aims to evaluate the real potential of AI tools in the creative process, while highlighting the need for thoughtful human refinement to ensure quality and printability.
