Description

This is Hornet's Needle from Hollow Knight.

I designed this based off actual video game images and measured it to try and get the right proportions for the components (the actual blade maybe bigger if scaled with the actual holder, I tried to scale it based off the mask I designed here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1106546-hornet-mask-hollow-knight).

This design uses 20" of metal ½" conduit pipe as it's core to improve strength and decrease overall costs. (The conduit pipe has an outer diameter of exactly 18mm, and an inner diameter of 15.75mm.)

If you want a bigger version that uses ½" PVC pipe, see this model that was just released.

I created multiple versions of this model, printing it in PLA is simple and comes out great. I have also experimented with a metallic TPU 95 to create a flexible softish sword, but it is much more difficult to dial in and get a clean print. If you go this direction, I would recommend printing the connector in a stiff material

I also tested spray painting it with a light coat of Krylon Fusion Hammered Silver Finish, and it is totally worth it if you want to take it that extra step.

Boosts help me justify designing new things to share with the public and cover the costs of multiple prints to optimize the print settings.

Assembly instructions:

  1. Generally it should be pretty intuitive. It can be assembled with the conduit pipe, or with the printed pipe replacement. The printed pipe is going to be somewhat fragile, so I recommend getting the conduit pipe.
  2. optional Assemble the conduit pipe replacement. Glue piece 1 to connect piece 2 and 3. Pieces 2 and 3 should be identical.
  3.  Insert piece 5 into the bottom of piece 6 (you may have to remove the support), then slide the top of piece 7 onto the other end of piece 5. I think it is a good idea to ensure they connect nicely before adding the glue. If you have to force them together, stop and sand down piece 5 a bit.
  4. Slide the pipe into the bottom of the connected piece from step 3.
  5. Slide piece 8 onto the pipe and align it with the connected piece from step 4. Add glue when you are happy.
  6. Slide piece 4 onto the other end of the pipe
