Description

Xiaomi and Aqara: shame on your for designing the worst battery cover case ever - impossible to open. This model is a screwdriver for this…

Opening this sensor is an horror:

The little screwdriver will print in 10-15 minutes.

I printed at 0.2, 3 walls, 15% infill, PLA.

And made it red to showcase my anger at this device. (I have 15 of those in my house, all over the place measuring temperature. They are quite reliable… nevertheless).

Instructions on how to open the Aqara / Xiaomi back cover:

(Marvel at the cynicism that such instructions need to exist)

Place screwdriver in the slot

Push down HARD and turn counter-clock wise just a bit.

  • I say hard because if you are too gentle, the tip of the “screwdriver” will deform.
  • Their bad design means that there's only 1mm depth and rounded to nothin over 1cm. I mean… pfffff
  • It would be a bit over the top but you could print in carbon fiber…

Just turn A BIT counter clock wise.

  • I mean like aim as if was the 56 minutes mark on a clock…

Added tip:

  • make a small line across the the cover and the case before opening…
  • so you know where to put it back in later (which is also a nightmare otherwise)

Voila.

It's already broken like most of mine? Here are some tips to still open them

  • Most of the time I literally use a small wood chisel as screwdriver as its cutting through the plastic and then I can turn
  • There are several example on the web door where you can just put a double sided tape down in the middle and then do the push in turn like I described above.

Prints well, but I still could not get it to engage in the sensor slot.
