Description

Info: Makerworld has removed the custom print profiles again, this time for lacking physical images. I previously got them reinstated when they were mistakenly flagged as duplicates, but I was not successful this time. As a result, I won't be able to fulfill requests for custom print profiles with specific dimensions.

Sorry to everyone who doesn't want to deal with Fusion 360 and now can't get a custom size guide. Makerworld just has extremely stupid rules.

I'm done dealing with the idiotic policies on this platform. I can already see that if I recreated all the models and just slapped my preview image in there, they'd get butthurt again.

But you need to understand them! With their rules I need to print each different size, take a picture, and throw it away just so I can publish a profile! And they'd probably require me to use their own filament for that too!

Makerworld, please learn and understand what a parametric design is.

This is a fully parametric sharpening stone guide, heavily inspired by Duerlis's Knife sharpening guide.

Key improvements in this model include:

  • Fully parametric design: Easily customizable to fit your specific needs
  • Integrated stoppers: Stops for the runner are included at both the start and end of the base to prevent the knife from going off the stone
  • Extended base: The base has been extended to allow the runner to use the full length of the stone by default
  • Simplified connector: A streamlined base-to-runner connection reduces friction for smoother operation (see post processing)

If you're not using Fusion 360 and need a specific size, feel free to leave a comment with your stone's dimensions, and I’ll be happy to create a custom version for you!

Tips For Printing With Custom Settings:

  • Make sure the seam is not on the runners or in the runner groove
  • Rotate the prints so they are not parallel to the X or Y axis. Use e.g. 45 degrees. Placing them parallel to X or Y can cause heavy artifacts around the degree marking on the runner

Post Processing:

If the sled is not running smoothly, sand down the runners a bit with 180+ grit paper. If it still isn't running 100% smoothly, you can try applying some dry lubricant to the runner grooves.

Using the Fusion 360 Source File:

To fully utilize the source file, you’ll need the Fusion ParametricText Addon installed, as it generates the degree markings on the side of the sled.

The model has a whetstone tolerance of 1mm by default.

Changelog:

    • Added parametric hexagon base (options base_hexagon_side_length and base_hexagon_border_width)
  • 23.09.2024 (V1-0):
    • Uploaded v1-0
