25mm Silver Keychain (10pcs) - MA001

Description

~~~Update!~~~
I've added 2 new profiles for a V2 of the design, as well as a mini version perfectly sized for a keychain!
Updates are as follows:
Better teeth (finally) combined to make gluing way easier.
Hinges now align into slots on either half of the head, don't need glue but it doesn't hurt.
Eyes now align to pegs, also allowing them to be rotated in place.
Some very minor part-part tolerance tweaks.
No unique parts between AMS and non AMS printers this time. Non AMS users just erase the painting on plate 1, and swap filament from red to white after the first layer on plate 2.
Cut a piece of filament to use in the hinge of the mini version.
The mini version in mini enough the A1 mini can print one out on a single plate in about half an hour!
The beloved Chain Chomp from the Mario series, making it's 3D debut in Super Mario 64 in the late 90's. I hadn't seen a version with a properly chompable jaw, (then again, I didn't really look) so I decided to make one. As it's name suggests, there's also a print in place fun flexi chain to play with too if you get tired of chompin. The sphere itself is bout 2 inches in diameter, if there's any interest in a larger scale, let me know and I can bump everything up and keep the tolerances.
Assembly:
  • Start with gluing the eyes to the top half of the head.
  • Put the 3 hinge pieces together, should be pretty straightforward.
  • Glue the hinge side with two pieces into the slot on the top half, it's a tight fit, so make sure you have it pushed in all the way. Try pushing it first for fitment before busting out the glue.
  • Align the two halves by putting the upper in to the recess of the lower to make the jaw open at a 90° angle, and fit the lower hinge into the lower half of the body for fitment.
  • You can place the teeth onto the gap to check the alignment and fit of everything before any more gluing as a sanity check that everything nearly completes the sphere.
  • Take the teeth off and now glue the lower hinge into lower half if it isn't already snug in there, it's another tight fit.
  • Carefully add glue along the base of the teeth and stick on to their respective halves aligning with the edges. There's not much wiggle room, so it would be best to do the teeth before the glue tries for perfect alignment.
  • Now jumping to the chain - loop the two quarter links through the end of the chain, then push those two into the chain base. This is a really tight fit but once it's in, it's not coming out. Then glue onto the lower half.
  • If you want to mount it to something, just print another two quarter links and base and there ya go.
  • Chomp
~~~V1 Update~~~

Plate 4 now has painted eyes, as opposed to the change filament by layer height, to clear up some confusion.

Plate 5 has the hinge pieces in red to better blend in with the inner mouth.

Plate 6/7/8 are for users without an AMS, where the inner red portion of the mouth is glued into the body halves, and the eye halves can be glued together separately if you don't do a manual filament change.
Plate 9 is a simple and classic Mario pipe for displaying your chain chomp, since it doesn't like to sit still without using the chain as a balance before it starts rolling off on it's own.
~~~V1 Update 2~~~
Added the thickened teeth to the profile for easier gluing.
