Description

Organise your kitchen with these customisable Lid Covers!

What Are they?

Simple lid covers that can be slipped on easily over the lid of any Jar, can, bottle, spice jar etc.

Simply measure the jar lid you want to cover and input the dimensions into the configurator to make the custom size

2 versions provided:

  • A fully solid cover
  • A cover with a cut out and Lip so you can insert a “badge” with whatever label, image or pattern you like, which you can design using “make your sign”

Also provided is a template from "make your sign" so you can customise your lid “badges” (based on the make your sign pet tag template)

Why would you use them?

I see a couple of use cases for these, so I hope people will find them useful. Some of my suggestions are:

  1. Decorate your cupboards! - Print out lid covers in a bunch of fun colours and make your cupboards a bit more colourful than the boring old lids most jars come with!
  2. Organise your cupboards! - Use colour coded lid covers to help organise your cupboards. Either to make sure things are placed back in the right place (purple jars to go back in the “purple zone” ) or you could use red lid covers on jars that are close to running out to remind you to buy more next time you are at the shops
  3. Label your jars! - If you decant condiments into unlabelled jars, or if you keep items in drawers where you can only see the top of the lid, it can often be hard to tell what jar is which - use the label badge version to add names/messages to jars to help find things. Also great in shared housing to show what belongs to who!
  4. Accessibility -
    1. Add braille to the label badge to make it easier for the hard of sight to find the jar they are looking for.
    2. Add images or names in different languages to help those who don't speak the language
    3. Use colour coding to help food safety/allergies - e.g. put a red warning label on all the jars you know contain nuts to help protect nut allergy sufferers

Instructions:

Jar Lid Cover

  1. Click “customise” and choose which version of lid you'd like (whether you'd like to add a label badge or not)
  2. Measure the jar lid you want to cover - measure it's diameter and height - remember to add a bit extra for tolerance!
  3. Input the Jar diameter into the “lidinnerdiameter” variable, and the jar lid height into the “lidheight” variable
  4. Optional:
    1. If you want you can customise the thickness of the lid using “lidwallthickness”
    2. If using the badge version you can vary the size of the hole using the “borderthickness” variable - make sure this matches your “border offset” in make your sign when you make your badge
    3. If you'd like a more “ridged” effect to the lid cover - reduce the “smoothness variable”
  5. Then download the .stl and print! If using the solid version you can use vase mode for a quicker print

Lid Badge

  1. Open the template in Bambu's “Make your sign”  (or start from their “pet tag template” - but remove the hole!)
  2. Set the badge dimensions to 0.5mm less than your lid inner diameter
  3. Set the border offset dimension to match your “borderthickness” value of the lid
  4. Then design your lid to your heart content!
  5. Print and clip into the lid cover

Discussion

This is my first time designing using OpenSCAD.  A rather simple idea but I've personally found these covers useful (I use them to mark jars that are close to empty so either I or my partner remembers to buy more when we go to the shops) so I hope others find them useful too! Realise there are some similiar designs out there, but I don't think any of them have the exact same use as here.

As always I love to hear feedback so any problems or feedback please just let me know :)
