This model of a classic woven basket has been designed to allow you to customize the dimensions so you can make whatever size you need - you can set your own basket height and width. You want a tall and thin pencil holder? Or maybe a wide basket for bigger items? You can do that with this print.
If you have suggestions or requests then please share them in the comments or via direct message.
I developed this for the OpenSCAD Master Challenge contest. Getting the maths right was quite challenging!
You can customize this by setting the height and width of the basket you want, along with the number of supporting cylinders and weave height.
I recommend adjusting the 'Number of supporting cylinders' parameter for your requested height and width until you get something that looks pleasing to you. It won't look right if you pick too many or too few.
Keeping the 'Weave height' between 4 and 6 gives the best results.
For best results, use a 0.2mm layer height. You might want to use a layer height of 0.1mm for the bottom and the top of the basket where there is more detail. There is no need for supports on model, even though there are plenty of bridges throughout it.
Warning: Do not use adaptive layer height because the bridges can sag if the layer height is too big.
I used OpenSCAD to make this model. OpenScad generates models from code. I've never used OpenSCAD before, so I got a little help from ChatGPT :-)
This is the first model I've published online. I hope you like it!
