I've designed this cable/extension cord reel/drum/organizer (What do you call it??). It's designed for a 5m cord and is pretty sturdy taken into consideration the low filament usage. It's equipped with a small handle so that it's easier than ever to organize your extension cord.
I recommend using my print profile as it has brought me the most succes. If you want it printed faster I recommend using a brim on the STEP file called “Cable drum”. Also you should use support for the “Housing” if you don't want a print fail late in the print.
Assemble it in the following order:
- Start by testfitting the groove in the “Housing” and “Lid" with the “Cable drum”. Twist a couple of times to make sure that it runs smoothly.
- Feed plug through the “Cable drum” and find the middle of your cable. Now locate the cable in the 2 slots (Top and bottom).
- Press the “Gear” into place.
- Press the gear assembly onto groove on the “Housing” and feed the cables through the 2 different holes in the “Housing” (It should look like the attached picture).
- Attach the “Lid” making sure that the “Cable drum” locates in the groove in the “Lid”. Now assemble with 6 M2x8mm, M2x10mm or M2x12mm screws.
- Fit the “Handle knob” to the “Handle” and fit the handle assembly onto the “Gear” sticking through the “Lid”
