Description

I just got the MicroKit Theremin Kit for my birthday, and while it is cool, it is a bit fragile because it doesn't come with a case to hold the electronics. I stumbled on Dave of the Dead's very cool Theremin Vintage Radio and decided to make it… but I made some changes.

Dave's original model has a front plate that is all one piece, but I wanted a slightly different look, so I split it into two pieces – a frame around the front and an insert that is friction-fit in the frame. Bambu folks and other MMU users – I also made an updated all in one front plate if you want that. :)

Something I want to mention – I did a last minute tweak to the tabs that are used to put the back and front together. Please let me know if I messed them up in the process! Thanks!

To make it a little easier for you to figure out what to download:

Version Bambu (colorized and plated)

  • theremin-radio_backv2-byDaveoftheDead
  • theremin-radio-full-face-plate
  • theremin-radio-knob - x2 – These are on the same plate as the face plate

Version 1 (the one in my pics)

  • theremin-radio_backv2-byDaveoftheDead.stl
  • theremin-radio-blank-front-frame.stl
  • theremin-radio-front-plate-insert.stl
  • theremin-radio-dial-marks.stl
  • theremin-radio-knob.stl - x2
  • theremin-radio-tiny-logo.stl (this is annoying to print because tiny (which is why mine looks wonky), so I recommend making Version 2 of the radio so it won't be an issue)

Version 2 (logo printed on the front frame)

  • theremin-radio_backv2-byDaveoftheDead.stl
  • theremin-radio-front-frame-w-logo.stl
  • theremin-radio-front-plate-insert.stl
  • theremin-radio-dial-marks.stl
  • theremin-radio-knob.stl - x2

Filaments I used for mine:

  • Prusament Algae Pigment rPLA (back, front frame, knobs – yes, it's actually made from algae)
  • Prusament Vanilla White PLA (face plate)
  • Prusament Galaxy Black PLA ("dial" marks, logo)

I used a chrome ink pen to color the logo silver.

Remixed by:

Changing speaker from a grid to horizontal lines. Designing new knobs. Changing the “dial” marks to look a little different. Creating a retro-style “Theremin” logo. Cutting parts to smaller parts to make it more customizable.
