**EDIT: I changed wadding and slug height as the slug looked odd for being so tall. FUZZY SKIN IS ENABLED IN THE 3MF FILE! MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THAT SETTING IF YOU ARE PRINTING ANY OTHER COMPONENTS THAN THE TAN WADDING!!!**
Lots of requests for a Slug version of my 12-guage shotgun shell, as I made a prototype Assembly/ Cut Away a while back, but never took the time to publish it. So, here it is!
This is a 12 gauge/70mm Shell SLUG Cut Away, model. These parts don't NEED supports, although, I use PETG support on the brass head for the lettering on the case head, as well as the concave part of the actual slug. This concave portion can't REALLY be seen, so, you really don't NEED to use supports on either of these. Also, make sure you're printing with the main shell body facing down, otherwise it will print a TON of support to print the roll crimp. Use a Quality hobby grade CA glue for assembly. Do NOT use cheap gel glue from the store or it WILL frost the parts as the glue off gases during curing( Loctite, Gorilla brand, etc). If you experience some off gas hazing, a tiny rub down with petroleum jelly, followed by a good wipe down with a soft cloth will make it look good as new. A little superglue goes a LONG way, use just a couple small drops!
Assembly is pretty straight forward. Just referencing the picture will give you a pretty clear idea if my ramblings below are too confusing. Generally, I assemble as follows/ here are some tips. The Wadding should be printed with Fuzzy Skin, as it very closely makes this part resemble the real felt wadding. You will see both fuzzy and non-fuzzy in the pictures so you can decide for yourself.( I have included reference pictures in the picture section for assembly, in what SHOULD be the right order):
If these directions are too confusing, and they probably are, just do this. Use the case body to align the Slug, Wadding Cards, Wadding, and Wadding Cushion. It can act like an alignment jig. Assemble the lower parts separately, and slide the entire thing together.
Filaments I use( The Plates in the 3MF file are labeled with color options, too):
