Description

cloud box

modular and stackable through magnets

check out companion model cloud organiser · modular

this is a modular design that consists of the boxes themselves, lid, and as options you have feet and inserts. the stacking between the boxes, lid and feet is achieved through the use of 6x3mm magnets. These are affordable and readily available in many stores (i purchased mine from amazon in a pack of 100), and enable the stacking of the components, resulting in a satisfying "thock" sound and smooth action.

You'll need 16 6x3mm magnets to achieve the same result as shown in the pictures and included in the print profile, as well as some drops of super glue to ensure they really stay in their position and don't get pulled away from the slot.

please make sure that you are very mindful of the polarities of the magnet when assembling and gluing in their spots as you want to make sure that each section atracts and not repels the one that will sit above/below

print profile consists of 4 plates as seen below. the feet and inserts are optional, but for me the inserts really make the finishing touch and increase the flexibility. there is 3 different designs of inserts, and they all have 1mm thickness walls, and are design with very small tolerances to ensure a perfect tight fit, so make sure that you have your machine calibrated and filament dry so that you don't run into any tolerance issues

perfect! printed using PLA-CF + silver silk filament for the tray inset, I love how I can switch elements out to mix and match parts if I feel like changing it up or making the tray a different metal color

Very cool design, looks so professional. :-) Have you thought about creating a version with hidden magnets? That the holes are closed with one layer with 0.2mm height and made 0.2mm deeper. then you can set a pause in the slicer and insert the magnets. So no glueing necessary and you get invisible magnets. :-) I remixed a simple part in the past where that worked very well. See my comments here at this model: https://makerworld.com/en/models/15179#profileId-38179

thanks for the feedback! regarding embedded magnets i did use that approach in the past - i have a simple wall keyholder where i did this on the holder and on the keychain - for that use case i agree it looks better, but i find that you need to use stronger magnets (more expensive) to get the same level of attachment, and to be honest i actually like the look of the visible magnets better on most models. but appreciate the input, and keep tuned as i'm posting a companion organiser very soon :)

Look really nice, I will print this for sure! Great work. :) Love the color of the lid and feet. Is that a bronze filament, and which brand?
