Items needed:

  • Super glue (recommended)
  • 3m LED strips of your choosing
  • 3d printer and filament ;)
  • OPTIONAL** Aluminum HVAC tape. Some people like to use the tape, personally ive never been able to tell the difference in light intensity with or without the reflective tape.

Directions for making a hole for LEDs:

  • Load model and right click the box and add negative cube.
  • For traditional LEDs (10mm width) I recommend a 3.5mm x 10mm rectangle for the led cutout.
  • Position the cutout where it makes sense for your intended use. I recommend further toward the back wall to help with light diffusion.
  • Done, now slice!

Directions for printing/assembly:

  • Recommended to print with the attached print profile as it has settings for both the slicer and filament profile to aid in printing.
  • Assign your colors to adjust the outcome as desired.
  • OPTIONAL** If you opt for the HVAC tape, line the back of the box with the reflective tape.
  • Run LEDs through your hole and secure around the perimeter of the box. Once again as far away from the faceplate, the better.
    • Put a few drops of super glue around the edge of the LED strip to ensure it doesn't come loose in the future.
  • Put a drop of superglue every couple inches around the inside of the top wall where the faceplate slides in. This will ensure the lid doesn't come off in the future.
  • I also like to place the box face down once glues and set a roll of filament on top for 30-60mins while the glue really sets. This keeps the faceplate uniform around the perimeter so it doesn't pull away in some spots.
