Description

UPDATE: v3 has been uploaded in 2 versions. You can have fuzzy edges, pictured, or traditional smooth edges. In addition to a fuzzy edge version I've been making the transition from TinkerCAD to Onshape and took this opportunity to rebuild the model from the ground up with improvements.

I had a complaint for some time about my BMW G01 LCI (2021-2024 X3), that my phone, when sitting on the wireless charging pad, would slide around and either stop charging or even sometimes come completely out of the cubby. Additionally it could be a little annoying trying to grab the phone as it slid to the back of the cubby when you tried to grip it.

I built this frame to sit in that cubby. It does not block any functionality. The USB, key pocket, and status light are all visible and accessible. The opening for the status light doubles as a place to put your thumb to lift your phone and grab it. The wall on the back has a cutout to not hit the power button and serves to make sure the phone can't hop away from you when you're grabbing it. Additionally the edges are beveled so you don't have to be super precise when you put your phone in. The slanted sides will slide the phone properly into place.

NOTES

  • I do not know if this will work on the pre-LCI G01 (2017-2020 X3) vehicles. I believe it's the same exact cubby area but I don't have access to one to verify.
  • This is sized for the iPhone 15 Pro WITHOUT a case. I do not use a case nor could I imagine making a variation of this for the multitudes of cases available on the market.

PRINTING

  • PLA not recommended. Depending on where you live, the temperature inside your parked car in the summer could have negative effects. I am using PETG. ASA or ABS would be even better.
