Bungee - Shock cord connector 1/4 " inch
Design
I needed to join two ¼" pieces of shock cord for the rigging on my kayak.
I wanted something more aesthetically pleasing than a fisherman's knot. I wanted something that was durable yet slim and did not stand out.
I looked around but could not find a suitable connector so I came out with this design.
The idea is that the bungee cord gets squeezed and held by the half screws as the nuts are tightened from each end. There are ridges in the hollow half screws that hold the bungee cord and prevent it from slipping.
I tried it with and without glue and found out you need glue. With glue the connector forms a very strong joint that I was not able to pull apart.
This model is for ¼" shock cord. You can scale it to fit others.
Instructions
3D Printing
I print with .16mm. The tolerances are fairly tight so you want a precise printer. I found some filament printed better than others so do some experimenting.
My designs
I enjoy creating 3d models that others can use and appreciate. It is a very fun pastime. I find it very rewarding to see my models downloaded and printed. I put lots of thought, time and effort to create each model print out multiple iterations to make sure it works just right.
If you liked my model and wish to encourage me please give it a like or a boost. If you wish you can also help me with my filament costs. Thank you.
