Description

A few months ago, we had a mouse problem. There were lots of them, and they crawled into the walls and ate through the insulation. So I set traps to catch the mice. Since a mouse didn't get caught in the trap every day, I didn't check the traps regularly. Then I found a model here on Makerworld that makes a classic mousetrap smart. Great idea! That way, I would always be notified via my smart home if something moved the trap, and a trapped mouse would no longer have to suffer. Unfortunately, the model didn't fit my traps.

So I designed my own model, bought a few Zigbee vibration sensors, and put everything together. And here it is, my smart mouse trap:

  • designed to fit a mouse trap measuring around 100 x 50 x 7-8 mm
  • the TUYA ZG-103Z (round, 40 mm diameter) is suitable as a vibration sensor or there's even a round version of the TUYA TS0210 which also fits
  • additional small interchangeable plate for bait (e.g., for Nutella)
