Description

Cable reel organiser.
I designed this to stay in the middle of the cable, so that the ends tidy up more consistently.

The lid snaps in place, but still easy to remove.
Prints in separate pieces.

The short one was designed specifically for the USB-C from my phone, and the tall one for the cable of a macbook. Both use ~3.8mm cables.

The lid is the same for both types.

Update 4th Feb: Updated the tall container model to include a missing chamfer that was stopping it from working! Thanks for the catch, managed to ruin it cleaning up the chamfers!

Update 6th Feb: I have removed the cutouts that made the tabs on the core, there is still enough compliance for it to work, but hopefully this addresses the concerns about tab strength.

Slick. I did the tall version for my Macbook. Nice design and should help keep the cable organized better. I printed this in PLA+ at 124% speed. No problems and it handled it just fine. Snapped together without issue. Thanks for sharing.

The large container does not have a chamfer at the top so that the handle slips trough.

would you able to add a photo showing the problem please?

yeah, just take a look on the files in slicer. The upper edge of the large container is simply straight. so the handle slips through.

Hey, I created a quick and dirty slip in Ring for the bigger Version. Its on my Remake plate. I printed it on my X1C in less then 5 min and it works for me now. Let me know if it fits on yours to. Best Regards Jan

On my first print with PLA, the inner clips snapped. On my second try, I used PLA+. This time only one clip snapped. How is everyone getting this to work without snapping the clips?

Hi, I have changed the core files, the tabs are now just 1 solid compliant wall, hopefully this addresses your problems.

Thank you. I tried reprinting and it didn’t break when I connected the organizer. However, when I opened it, the clip broke.

That seemed to make it hold up better when connecting the pieces. However, when opening up the case, it ripped off the entire layer of the clip. I believe the nubs are too large. I sanded down the nubs to make them smaller, and was able to connect it, and disassemble it without breaking the clips. Can you make the nubs smaller?

The inner clips break very very easily, I think the top winder grip is not sized large enough for the larger winder too?

Thanks for the feedback, I can look at strengthening the clips I hadn't managed to break them yet so thought they were enough. Which parts are you having sizing issues with? The core fits into the container on a taper, are your pieces sitting flush?

can i ask a simple question? if i wanted to print this i could but i cant sell prints i make without paying you? or do i need to sign an agreement? or link to you so they can find you? I would seriously like to know. just trying to understand what's the point of 3d printing.... if i cant print anything... if its owned by someone? or is it better to just have you print and ship it.

I suppose it depends on what gets someone into 3d printing. For me it is squarely a fun hobby, I don't have a printer with the intention of making money, I have one to make cool or specific things. I wanted a cable reel to carry my MacBook cable to and from the office, and I wasn't quite happy with other versions out there, so I designed one to the exact dimensions I needed. I released it here incase it solves someone else's problem too. There are models out there that do allow commercial printing, but personally if I was aiming to build a business around it, I would want control of the intellectual property, you don't want to be struck with a cease and desist and lose any traction you had in a printing business. Hope any of this rambling helped : -) Kind regards Jimmy
