This spacer is designed to allow a USB cable to be routed through the front panel of the P1S and out from behind the factory screen. It's intended to be used with the xTouch display and the TeachingTech display enclosure.
This design is inspired by johnstylez design, but has a few improvements:
- The spacer thickness has been reduced to 5.8mm (from 8mm).
- A locking screw has been added (M3x4mm, stolen from spare PC components) which engages with the cutout on the P1S front panel to prevent the spacer coming loose.
- A latch has been added for the factory display, so it locks in place the same way as it does on the factory panel.
- Tolerances have been improved for less wobble.
- The original design shifted the screen sideways by about 17mm, which has been reduced to 13mm on this version. This also made it easier to add supports for the overhanging latches.
- Latch width was increased as much as possible to improve strength.
- The ends of the spacer have been rounded to match the design of the factory screen.
ABS is recommended for printing, as the enclosure can get hot enough to warp the part if printed in PLA. I haven't tested PETG - it might work.
To install the USB cable, the easiest approach is to remove the front panel. Instructions can be found here. I had to shave down the moulding around the MicroUSB plug to fit it through the panel without drilling it out.
