Our first model of a frame for a neon light. Figured if we were going to do one lets go bigger than the build plate and joint it so it can easily be assembled.
After three test versions here is the one we are releasing to the wild! If we make anymore updates we will be sure to update the file and let anyone who already downloaded it know.
If you have any feedback or suggestions on improvements leave a comment or send us a message, we are always on the lookout for ways to improve the designs.
FIRST OFF
This is a piece together model that will be almost 24 inches in height and 20 inches wide.
We made dovetail joints and a glue landing at the connections for ease of assembly.
If you want you can also melt the pieces together with a soldering iron. If you choose this way I'd suggest doing it from inside the channels to hide any ugly marks that happen.
We just used CA glue and it worked fine.
Also you will need to know how to solder for the LEDs on this.
We did not solder the jack adaptor directly to the end of the LED strip where we cut it, this would have let light bleed out undiffused.
We cut the silicone about 3 inches up from the end and soldered at one of the cut points, when I do another one I will get pictures for people that don't know what I mean.
For the cut ends where the LED strip was exposed, we used a small bead of hot glue to seal each end back up to keep light from bleeding out. This was to keep a bright spot away from where the two ends meet up. Again, I will get picture for reference on how this looked.
Materials used
The frame itself we printed using Bambu basic PLA black, use whatever material you choose though.
For the LED strip we used these from amazon, the run was a single strip about 10 feet long (16 feet in the roll).

This is our first time using these and I think we will try a different brand later that has closer cut lines but these fit great for this sign.
With the LEDs being 12v we needed a power supply and opted to go with this 5 pack of 1A power supplies. 1A worked fine for this install.
Also added a dimmer, without a dimmer though these lights are BRIGHT so we defiantly suggest investing in one.
