Description

Alternative (tangle free) filament guide for A1 MINI

Filament tube attached to X-axis cause filament tangle when Z-axis moves down before print. That's why I designed an alternative tube holder which is mounted next to spool holder.

Made in Fusion360.

STEP and F3D included.

Update 2024-03-27:

I forgot to mention that you probably will need a slightly longer tube. You can use a regular 4-3mm PTFE tube (4mm outer and 3mm inner diameter). I used a longer AMS Lite tube from Bambulab (4mm outer and 2,5mm inner diameter) which worked also just fine.

In my setup I guided the tube BEHIND the Z axis.

Guiding the tube.

However, some user will notice that their tube needs an different guidance. So when guiding behind the Z axis don't work for you, please try this additional guide designed by @S1ouhttps://makerworld.com/en/models/224955#profileId-242856

Very cool idea. Makes definitely sense 👌 Is the regular tube long enough for this position ?

Yes, the original tube is long enough for this position. I do use a couple of clips to connect the bowden tube to the cable of the printhead.

I have printed your handle, now I meet a fully printable ball joint swivel ptfe guide to plug into your side hole. I wish I could jqve something simple like a filament funnel to just simply guide it towards the head as you can see my setup here, I have spools up in the corner that just need a filament guide there

@andre.bar I have created a PTFE-tube guide that complements your model very well in terms of the tube's stabilization and guidance! Please let me know of your thoughts: https://makerworld.com/en/models/224955#profileId-242856 .

Hi S1ou, thank you for sharing your design. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me, because my tube is tending to bend backwards (see pictures) and when I would use your guide it would cause issues. I don't know why my tube has become shaped this way. But I think it will work pretty well for other users who's tube has not this strange shape :)). I will link your design in the description 👍

Hello Andre! I understand that since your PTFE tube is bend backwords it will not support it properly. I have not accounted for that scenario. My intent was to make a design that would work for my needs and everyone else that could also benefit from it. In any case, I will try to accomodate the backwards bending scenario in an updated version. Thank you however for your kind words!

Works well for low height prints, otherwise the provided bowden tube gets stretched. An easy fix would be to just buy a longer tube.

I just replaced the default PTFE tube with a longer one. That solved all the problems.

It helped me a lot to avoid jams. I placed it at the top of the Z-axis so the default tube fits. However, the printer couldn't move to the top position without making contact. So, I printed the combination/remix with the handle next. Now it works perfectly!

You have saved me countless troubleshooting minutes! Thank you very much! As an extra note, I have replaced the default PTFE tube with a longer one. That solved all the problems, except for one. Now the longer tube extends to the right of the printer and hits my filament dryer. I need to find a model that holds the (longer) tube closer to the printer without obstructing the black cable of the print head when the print gets higher towards the top. Other than that, it is an excellent solution!
