Calling all gyroid bros!
Gyroid infill is all the rage. It's the strongest and coolest infill style, so why not have it on display while your filament spools rotate?
Well now you can!
Introducing my Bambu Lab Reusable Spool remix with visible gyroid pattern. This fully supports all Bambu Lab refills.
This remix is based off the official Bambu Lab reusable spool model, so it functions exactly like the official spool, except has the added benefit of a very cool gyroid pattern holding it all together! It also uses significantly less filament.
Not enough gyroid for you? Well guess what? The infill of the solid parts is also gyroid! An absolute must for all gyroid fanboys (and girls) to show off your obsession.
Can I change any settings?
I would strongly advise you to NOT change any settings or modifiers in the print profile. I've spent a lot of time getting the right balance of strength and coolness, so each setting is there for a reason. The only settings you can change are filament settings if you want to print in something other than PLA.
What's the best filament to print this in?
PLA, PLA+, PLA Tough etc. are my favs here. To preserve the strength, it must print well and these print the best without missing a beat. If you dry a lot of filament, print them in PETG or ABS to avoid warping in filament dryers. Do not put this in a filament dryer if you printed using PLA or PLA variants!
Why doesn't the gyroid pattern cover the whole side?
Alright, calm down, I know you want maximum gyroid but there are some limitations! I tried many prints with gyroid the whole way around but unfortunately some solid parts are needed or the spool is way too flexible. This is the best of both worlds - strength and plenty of gyroid. If anyone wants this model I can add it - just leave a comment.
When I attach the spools, I can hear clicking. Should I be worried?
No, this is normal! The RFID tag may gently scrape against the gyroid pattern when closing the spool. Just keep going until it clicks in place.
Will this block my RFID readability?
Nope! Your AMS will read the tags fine with this reusable spool.
Do I need to use the spacing shim?
It's been added as a 3rd plate because the official Bambu Lab version uses it. I have never need it personally so I don't bother, but you can use it if you like.
Please let me know what you think and let's see some photos showing off your super cool gyroid pattern spools!
