After receiving a ton of requests for a spinning version of my AquaRocket, I'm excited to share that it's finally here! 🚀🌀 The AquaRocket Spin works just like the original: dunk it underwater, squeeze to fill, then launch it and watch it glide with a mesmerizing spinning motion. Developing this version was a fun challenge. I went through several prototypes, experimenting with different fin angles and curves to dial in the perfect balance of spin and glide. It also gave my kids a great excuse to constantly ask when we were blowing up the pool for "more testing" 😂. Printed in TPU, it's flexible, durable, and uses less than 20g of filament for the standard size. Just finished my rotating garden hose guide aimed at keeping hoses from dragging through landscaping & flower beds. It’s a practical print carefully optimized for function, strength and printability. The design uses a free-spinning roller with a concave profile to keep the hose centered while reducing friction as it's pulled around corners. I added a textured topographic pattern mostly for looks, and personal touch, but I made a non-pattern version too. I went through a few iterations to balance the competing constraints for a demanding outdoor print: • ⁠Modular construction so individual parts can be reprinted if needed • ⁠Dialed-in bearing surfaces for smooth rotation (no hardware needed) • ⁠Geometry that is easy to print across a variety of materials • ⁠Stake geometry to resist bending and breaking (printed horizontal) • ⁠Roller profile shaped to naturally guide the hose back to center I've put a few out around the garden and after a month of testing they are holding up well. Just finished my classic bottle cap can cover/lid that keep drinks fizzy, keep bugs out, and avoid spills during summer outings. TPU felt like the perfect material for a reusable can cover. Just launched my entry for the Wind Spinner Contest — a cosmic rocket wind spinner🚀! It's inspired by turbine-style airflow designs, and integrates 608 bearings to spin smoothly in the breeze. This one was a really fun mix of kinetic art, engineering, and retro sci-fi design. Hope you all enjoy it — happy printing and good luck to everyone in the contest! For this one, I started with a concept sketch to get this idea on paper. Once I had something that I liked, I got to work prototyping in Fusion working on the turbine design proof of concept. Several iterations later I had a smooth spinning bearing version working well so I moved to optimizing the rocket parts. Each part is desined for printability, strength, and ease of assembly. Threads and snap fit connections are used throughout the model and no glue is needed.
