Alien Jellyfish Wind Spinner
What started as an “impossible” sketch idea slowly evolved into a fully 3D printable kinetic sculpture designed to move more like a living creature than a traditional wind spinner. I started brainstorming unique wind spinner concepts that did not rely on the typical straight fan or turbine-style design. After exploring different ideas, I began sketching a concept built from symmetrical segments that would form a complete circle and rotate around while folding inward toward the center.After creating a rough prototype in Fusion 360 and rigging joints to preview the motion, I was instantly hooked by the movement. That was also the moment I showed the concept to a friend, who laughed and told me it would never be possible to make something like this entirely on a 3D printer.That challenge only made me want to build it even more. As the design evolved, I decided the sideways fans should have an organic, tentacle-like appearance because the motion reminded me of a jellyfish swimming through water, although with a slightly alien feel to it. Instead of using a normal front-facing fan design, this spinner uses a ring of “sideways-facing propeller” segments designed to catch wind from almost any direction. Each segment contains carefully positioned aerodynamic “cups” that help guide airflow into the structure while maintaining the flowing organic shape.One of the most difficult parts of the project was making sure the blades could properly “cup” and catch the wind throughout the entire range of motion and from all rotational positions. Nearly every blade shape and airflow surface went through repeated prototyping, redesigning, and tweaking before reaching the final result. Every mechanism and functional element in this project has undergone multiple iterations. The internal geometry of the spinner was specifically engineered for FDM printing and designed to create low-friction movement between printed parts while remaining strong and stable outdoors. The spinner is made from 14 interconnected segments, each carefully dimensioned to prevent unwanted collisions or interference while still allowing the repeating folding “swimming” motion effect during rotation. Another major challenge was developing strong print-optimized hinges and locking mechanisms that could reliably snap together, remain aligned, and survive repeated movement and outdoor wind conditions. This project required many failed prototypes and redesigns before everything finally worked together the way I imagined. Seeing the final spinner moving outdoors for the first time made all the iterations worth it.I think it is safe to say my friend was wrong. "Easter Egg Wind Tree-Bonsai"
The working mechanism of this “wind tree bonsai” is based on simple aerodynamic principles. Each egg-shaped blade is designed to catch the wind due to its curved surface and slight asymmetry. When wind flows across the structure, it creates a difference in air pressure on either side of the blades, generating rotational force (torque). Because the eggs are mounted on small filament pin like pivots within their circular frames, they can spin independently when exposed to airflow. Additionally, the arrangement of branches ensures that wind from multiple directions can interact with different blades, allowing continuous motion even in gentle breezes.

Just launched my entry for the Wind Spinner Contest — a cosmic rocket wind spinner🚀! It's inspired by turbine-style airflow designs, and integrates 608 bearings to spin smoothly in the breeze. This one was a really fun mix of kinetic art, engineering, and retro sci-fi design. Hope you all enjoy it — happy printing and good luck to everyone in the contest!
For this one, I started with a concept sketch to get this idea on paper. Once I had something that I liked, I got to work prototyping in Fusion working on the turbine design proof of concept. Several iterations later I had a smooth spinning bearing version working well so I moved to optimizing the rocket parts. Each part is desined for printability, strength, and ease of assembly. Threads and snap fit connections are used throughout the model and no glue is needed.
I hope the end result is something that is as much fun to print and assemble as it is to watch spin!

I learned how to make feathers for my windspinner contest entry and thought id show it to everyone! These feathers print out only .2mm thick with no top or bottom walls and once they are trimmed the really do seen like a real feather. The profile was a bit of a nightmare to set up but seems reliable once dialed in.

Cowduction Wind Spinner
Started as “a simple UFO wind spinner idea.”
A few days later I was testing airflow, balancing rotors, designing spiral tractor beams, fighting transparent PETG, and emotionally negotiating with a tiny abducted cow. 👽🐄
Cowduction Wind Spinner became one of the most fun projects I’ve ever worked on.
The goal was to create something that feels alive even in light wind:
smooth spinning
floating beam illusion
suspended cow slowly abducted inside the tractor beam
The beam section went through MANY failed experiments before reaching a printable version that still looked lightweight and open enough to see the cow inside.
One important note:
The beam rods should be printed in PETG and in the provided orientation. Changing the orientation may weaken them and cause breakage.
And finally…
Please be nice to the cow.
It did not consent to intergalactic transportation. 😄

This is only my 6th(technically 7th, but still working on actually getting my 6th to print properly) CAD creation. I'm still learning fusion and so...yeah
The original concept of this wind spinner used large continuous twisted blades, but after multiple print iterations and some very aggressive battles with bridges, overhangs, nozzle collisions, and airflow behavior, the design evolved into this helical rib-cage structure.
The final version keeps the same turbine-inspired motion and vortex style while dramatically improving printability and structural stability.
A lot of the process became an exercise in learning valuable lessons. Or being taught a tough lesson between CAD design and printing.

Spin-E-mojis started with a simple idea:
What if a wind spinner could change expressions while it spins?
Instead of creating a single fixed image, each emoji is split across independently rotating panels. As the wind turns them, different facial features mix together to create constantly shifting expressions that never look quite the same twice.
This project was inspired by kinetic art, optical effects, and the idea of turning simple airflow into playful interaction.
