The original kevlar/fiberglass end caps needed replacement on our Souris River Quetico 17 and the commercial replacement did not fit; thus redesigned in Tinkercad from scratch to match the original kevlar end cap (shown on top of white PLA prototype). These were printed with Elegoo Black PETG-CF filament on a Bambu Labs A1 Mini (which cannot print ASA, Nylon or ABS). The tinkercad STL is without fillets to round the outside edges, thus negative fillet geometries were added in Bambu Studio.

A recent 2024 trip to the Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin estate near Spring Green, WI, inspired this original design of a faux stained glass suncatcher with a floral and circular pattern. I have been working to perfect the design process for creating 3D printed Suncatchers to share with this community of "makers". I start with poor man's CAD (Powerpoint) to create a 2D sketch of what I want, import into MS Paint to recolor, then import /w Makeworld "Image to Keychain" to generate the model.

This is from a series of color mixing experiments that I conducted to develop my ability to create many colors from layers of four primary filament colors. Background science comes from the physics of color mixing of light and pigments. Like color lithophanes, but on a much more complicated scale than what I was looking for to recolor panels of my suncatcher faux stained glass art to minimize the number of filaments that I needed to stock to still be able to offer a limited rainbow of options.
