While printing the parts for my large Modular Educational Bead Maze, I accidentally printed a whole batch of beads way too small. I was literally standing next to the trash bin, ready to toss them, when my fiancée stopped me with a brilliant idea: "Why not make a matching, pocket-sized loop out of them?" A few adjustments later, the Infinite Pocket Bead Maze was born! It’s a continuous, unbroken loop that lets the beads roll endlessly. Hi everyone! I wanted to share the design process and inspiration behind my latest project, the Modern Modular Bead Maze. ​My main goal was to create a classic, durable developmental toy for toddlers that takes full advantage of 3D printing while maintaining a clean, high-quality aesthetic. Here are a few key design choices I made during development: Material & Color Contrast: I paired a base printed in Bambu PLA Wood (Black Walnut) with vibrant Bambu PLA Matte tracks. The combination hides layer lines well and gives the model a very natural, clean look. Ergonomic Base: The underside of the feet features a subtle concave arch. This not only breaks up the bulky geometry but also acts as a built-in handle, making it much easier for parents and toddlers to pick up and move. Durability: Since toddler toys need to withstand a lot of force, the tracks are optimized for 100% solid infill and tight-fitting connectors to ensure they remain safe and unbroken during play.
