These foldable tea bag baskets are perfect for the filament-conscious tea-lover! They print in under two hours, fold really simply, and are designed to be stackable.

I made the design in OnShape and there are a few options to choose from:

  • Single Color - both rectangular and diagonal patterns for all sizes
    • Short basket - 2 inches long
    • Long basket - 3 inches long
    • Extra Long basket - 4 inches long
      • This one will require a larger print bed than my Prusa i3 MK3 but I figured I'd make the version available for those that have larger print beds.
  • Dual Color - when it's folded the inside of the box will be a different color than the outside
    • Same versions as the single color option

Printing

I printed a bunch of the different versions in several different colors of PLA on the Prusa i3 MK3.

When slicing, I recommend the following settings as a minimum:

  • First layer height: 0.25mm
  • Layer height: 0.2mm
  • No skirt

Also consider using the following settings:

  • Solid infill extrusion width: 125%
  • Top solid infill extrusion width: 125%
  • Solid infill speed: 60mm/s
  • Top solid infill speed: 50mm/s
  • First layer speed: 30mm/s

To “assemble” the baskets, just insert the tabs into their respective slots and gently fold at the crease. Refer to the photos for help.
