Description

This aerodynamic vortex generator is inspired by the shark fin design commonly seen in aircraft and high-performance vehicles. It can be installed on the car roof or rear section to:

Reduce drag

Lower wind noise

Prevent airflow separation at high speeds.

Vortex generators work by creating controlled micro-vortices along the surface, which help streamline turbulent airflow. This design features a smooth leading edge and a sharp trailing edge, optimized for aerodynamic efficiency and real-world performance.

I developed this model to solve a practical problem: the strong wind noise caused by a roof rack, especially at highway speeds. After installation, it significantly reduced the Kármán vortex street–induced turbulence noise, improving both comfort and aerodynamics.

If your vehicle is equipped with a roof rack, install this vortex generator in front of the rack on the roof for best results.

For 3D printing, ABS or PETG is recommended to ensure sufficient strength and outdoor durability.

Please apply 3M tape to install it to the car.
