Description

The Design

After something new? Here's the Vortex Spiral

Compatible with the rest of the V3 Series, this design features a single spiral

There's two variants, a slightly taller (100mm / 4 inches) and slightly shorter version (83mm / 3 inches).

Let me know if you experience any issues.

If you enjoy this print consider giving it a boost (It'd really help me out!)

Never Needed, Always Appreciated!

Printing

The setting in the print profile have been tested extensively to give the best result. However the underside of the spiral may still need to be cleaned up and smoothed slightly

I like pushing designs to what the printers are capable of. If your having issues, let me know i will try and help.

The easiest was to do this is to run another inner part from the same series (with a flat base)

The Ball prints over a disc - this allows it to float, the disc is no needed.

Once printed let the build plate cool before trying to remove.

My Work

After many years in Engineering, I've decided to try and follow my childhood dream of becoming of a Creative Designer.

A Creative Designer of what? No idea! Right now I really like puzzles, mechanisms and kinetic sculptures so that's where I'm going to focus my efforts.

It's been a Roller Coaster but I'm almost there now!

Boosts really do help me out

the tower didn't print, maybe it's bambulabs dual silk material that'bad?

Have you calibrated the silk filament? Also what settings are you using on it? The quality is so different in the ball and the tower that it makes me think it´s the filament settings and calibration

Hello! No I used the the standard silk parameters. What settings do you use?

Ah that´s propably it then! It depends so much what filament I use. I calibrate all my filaments and then get some guidelines from the recommended settings for that filament. So if I was you I would first calibrate it (atleast flow rate, maybe temperature). Then check the recommended settings for that specific filament and use those as guides (silks usually print much better with slower print speeds in my experience).

changing from 1 star to 4 stars, just turn the speed down to silent on the ball and standard on the spiral part

Looks fustrating, prints shouldnt be coming off the build plate. I'd try cleaning the plate with soapy water and seeing if that solves the problem

Shouldn't need glue. Try cleaning with soapy water on the build playe (dish soap) and try to avoid fingers touching it whilst drying after washing. Run bed levelling before the print. And hopefully it'll be all good. I rarely have any issues after following these steps! But occasionally do before. Hope this helps

**Upgraded to 4 stars** The model is really cool and is 5 star for sure. I am reviewing the print profile... I ended up changing the size of the generic disc object below the sphere to 200% then it did stick and printed perfectly. Previous information... I really wanted this to work! I tried multiple times with a freshly cleaned bed and filament that does not have issues sticking, and every time it pops off and fouls my print head. I think adding a brim would have been better.

That must be fustrating! The support looks slightly different to the one I had, did you change the type? (not that that would change the outcome by the sound of it). Also did you try run bed levelling as well? Another option could be to increase the overhang threshold for the ball object. Hope this helps

I just hit print strait from the profile in the Bambu Handy app. I opened it in Bambu studio this afternoon and adjusted the size of the generic disc to 200% and left all other settings the same and that time it did not pop off, still waiting on the taller piece to finish but so far it is looking good at 82%

I think RJ Design has a model for caps... you should be able to find them on his profile.

Love the gold filament! Is it basic pla, metal or silk? Thanks for the review :)

Replying to @JOLKA :
it is the PLA silk from Bambu Labs. it can be a little brittle on some prints but it did great here.
