New version V2 for the new Sunlu Spools!!!

https://makerworld.com/en/models/839295#profileId-785134

AMS Spool Weight for sunlu or other spools with a central hole of a similar size to the sunlu brand (with 73mm hole).

Those of us who use the Sunlu filament encounter the problem that the spool weighs very little, and this causes failures in the AMS when there is little filament left.

I have tried some of the adapters that other people have designed, and although they seem pretty good to me, they are not what I was looking for.

I don't like the ones where you put batteries inside since the battery itself can end up leaking or cause other problems, so I don't like the idea of putting a possible problem inside my AMS.

There are others in which you can put sand or something similar, and although they are fine, when you put it in and take it out of the spool the contents can end up falling out when you open the adapter. I also don't like the ones that have silica inside, since most of them are covered by the spool itself it doesn't seem useful to me, I prefer to use other designs to deal with the humidity problem.

That is why I have designed a special one to be able to put sand inside and thus provide the necessary weight to avoid the problem of the spool rising inside the AMS.

It has an internal lid that you close once you fill it, and another external one whose function is to close the spool.
Inside it has a stop so that the internal lid does not lower more than necessary and which in turn serves to know the maximum filling level.
With this design there is no need to worry about having the adapter straight when inserting and removing it from the spool since it will always be covered.

I have put 3 walls and 20% gyroid filling to give it robustness, I don't find it necessary to spend more filament since what will give it weight is what you put inside.

You can use any type of sand, stones, marbles, etc.
In my opinion, the best result is sand, but you must make sure that it is completely dry before inserting it into the AMS Spool Weight for sunlu.
I hope you find it useful.

Good quality print and well-designed part But it does not fit my SUNLU spools (58mm inner diameter) As can be seen in the photo the diameter of the "weight" is much larger Unfortunately also not suitable for my BambuLab spools If a version adapted to 57mm (for 1mm of play) is considered that would be perfect Thanks for sharing

Thank you for your review, this model is designed for 73mm Sunlu coils, leaving a little clearance so that no one has tolerance issues I was unaware of the 58mm Sunlu coils

No problem! Is a 57mm diameter model feasible? Thank you

I don't have much time right now, but your proposal seems interesting When I have some time, I will look into it and let you know

Printed fine. Thanks to the Maker. I put grub screws in it. The weight is now 700 grams. Tried it with an almost empty spool and it worked wonderfully ;-)

Very good idea to use that type of filling

Prints great, works great. My Jayo-Filament all the time get stucked on filament change with the new AMS pro, those inserts fixed the problem for me. I filled them with 2 € coins, in total it's ~500 grams.

Printed perfectly, threads and all! I love the design and the ability to contain whatever’s inside while switching to a different spool. A 38mm bearing ball fits perfectly with a little bit of room to wiggle around. I use a lot of JAYO spools, which are similar to the old Sunlu.

Changing my initial 5 star review. It printed great and fits in my spool just great. However, my spools are still jumping around like a Mexican jumping bean at times and that isn't even the empty ones! I filled it with as much sand as I could. IMO a better design would be to have the threads on the outside and having the cap screw on on the outside. Having the threads on the inside and having it take up about 20% of the space prevents you from actually filling it with sand and really weighing it down. But hey, if it's working for some of you, that's great! Just doesn't do anything for me.

Thank you for your evaluation. If I make the threads on the outside as you suggest and have enough strength and length to ensure that the sand stays inside, I would have to make the cylinder narrower, which would fit more or less the same amount, or make it longer so that would not fulfill its function of adapting to both the spools and the AMS since it would protrude a lot from the Spool. The weight of the adapter filled with sand (without stones) is about 300g, which is enough to avoid the problem in most cases, but all of us who use Sunlu know that their spools are not very friendly with AMS and the effectiveness of any of these adapters are not 100%. You mention that it happens to you even with spools that are not empty, so I suggest that you check your AMS because you may have a small problem with the rollers, so you comment that the total weight of those spools could be 400 or 500g and you should not have no problem with those weights. The design of AMS is not perfect. You can also try filling it with small steel balls to give it more weight.

Fits, I put my AAA batteries in, I was able to add about 275g of weight but could add more, it's enough for me. Printing was easy and fast

as someone who has just recently acquired an AMS and mostly uses SUNLU and JAYO filament, this is an absolute must have. it prints and works like a charme, thank you
