Description

Ark Nova Deluxe Insert – Expanded Remix for Base Game & Marine Worlds Expansion (v1.3)

This is an enhanced remix of the Deluxe Insert for Ark Nova and Marine Worlds Expansion by SH Designs, featuring multiple refinements to improve storage, organization, and usability.

Modifications & Improvements

Core Features from v1.0:

  • Lid Spacer: Added a spacer for the lid to secure the board and player boards, allowing for vertical storage.
  • Negative Modifiers for Compatibility:
    • Adjusted Unique Building trays to accommodate different print/punch versions of the game.
    • Updated setup tray to hold 16 bonus tiles instead of 15.
  • Additional Trays for Better Organization:
    • 3 new trays (replacing 1 original tray) for:
      • Conservation projects
      • Final scoring cards
      • Draft action cards
  • Included Plates for Popular Upgrades:
  • No lid lift

New in v1.1:

  • Expanded Setup Box:
    • Added space for another coffee cup—because choosing between brown and white is tough.
    • Made the extra compartment deeper to hold more surplus components.
    • Included a dedicated plate for the break token (Source: mikemikemikemike)
  • Aligned Storage: Adjusted the Animals University slot so it aligns properly when stored.
  • Pavilion Refinements:
    • Scaled vertically from 17.3 mm to 16 mm to fit better in the box.
    • Removed flimsy pavilions entirely.
  • Tile Box Split:
    • Separated storage for player tiles and special enclosure tiles to match their different uses.
    • Added indents for easier identification of the tile removal spot in the special enclosure trays.
    • To make room for this redesign, the bottom part of the special enclosure trays was lowered just below plate level, so pay attention not to reorganize these plates.
  • Coin Plates Added: (Source: tigmg)
    • The delivered cardboard coins are a bit lackluster. For full immersion, printed coins (or actual coins) are preferred. Since you have a 3D printer, why not print some coins? 😉
    • Recommended print settings: 0.2 mm nozzle, 0.06 layer height, Arachne with min. feature size 1, 4 wall loops, and full infill. Or just use my print profile on his project
    • Suggested material: Silk+ filament for a premium finish (slow outer wall speed of 50).
  • Spacer Refinements: Updated the lid spacer with stenciled fonts to replace the original holes for improved aesthetics.

New in v1.2

  • Fixed missed height of special tiles tray and holder. Lowered each 0.7mm below plate, to make the nessecary room

New in v1.3

  • Colored layers to match Ark Nova box art style
  • Painted kiosks and pavillions

Credits & Acknowledgments

Many thanks to SerialGriller, PatR, PrintnBeam, mikemikemikemike, and tigmg for their fantastic designs and contributions!

Sleeve compatibility

This insert supports sleved cards with Arcane Tinmen matte sleeves (~80 µm). Thicker “premium” sleeves (often 100–110 µm, e.g. Dragon Shield) add significant bulk and may cause some card stacks to no longer fit the trays.

Changelog:

Version 1.3 (Latest Update)

  • Pretty colors

Version 1.2

  • Fixed error in special enclosure tiles and holder

Version 1.1

  • Expanded Setup Box:
    • Added room for another coffee cup in the setup tray.
    • Made the extra compartment deeper for more surplus components.
    • Added a plate for the break token (Source: mikemikemikemike).
  • Adjusted the Animals University slot for proper top alignment when stored.
  • Scaled down pavilions from 17.3 mm to 16 mm to fit better in the box.
  • Removed flimsy pavilions entirely.
  • Split the box for player tiles and special enclosure tiles for better usability.
    • Added indents for easier identification of tile removal spots.
    • To accommodate this, the bottom of the special enclosure trays was lowered just below plate level. Pay attention not to reorganize these plates.
  • Added coin plates (Source: tigmg):
    • Printed coins offer better immersion than the delivered cardboard coins.
  • Updated the lid spacer with stenciled fonts for a cleaner look.

Version 1.0 (Previous Update)

    • Kiosks & Pavilions by SerialGriller
    • Pavilion (sturdier version) by PatR (my preferred choice)
    • X Tokens by PrintnBeam (a fantastic upgrade from the paper tokens)

Planned Changes / Future Updates

These ideas were considered but did not make it into v1.1. They may be added in a future version:

  • Rounded corners on the Solo Tray – All other trays have rounded corners, so this one feels inconsistent.
  • Indent in the Basic Enclosure Trays (opposite the 3-enclosure section) – This would make it easier to pick them out of the insert.
  • Add a great x2 token – Haven’t found a good one yet. Might design it myself, using the same layered pattern as the X tokens.

Nice touch with the coloring! How did you achieve it?

Hi Rune, I tried to match the colors of the ark nova cover. So I used a combination of turquoise, grass green and ivory white from Bambulab and did some layer height painting usually with 2mm at the bottom and at the top. If anyone is interested I can also publish the printing profile with the colors already applied.

Nice design overall but it doesn't hold all the pieces from the game (and it's a shame for the size 3 and 4 slots that could fit by just being deeper)

Hey ChuckC, Appreciate the feedback, but just to clarify: this is a remix, and the issue you’re pointing out comes from the original design. I fixed a bunch of things in this version, but kept that layout because in real games, I’ve never seen all the size 3 and 4 tiles in play at once. That said, there is a dedicated surplus compartment, clearly shown in the images, exactly for that reason – so nothing ends up loose. Anyway, thanks for giving it a try. Hope the rest of the insert served you well.

Hey ChuckC, I felt the same way, so I redesigned the model to fit all tiles.

Everything looks in place, except for these tile holders sticking up! What am I doing wrong here?

These are the shifted plates. My best guess is that you re-organized them? Could that be the case? "To make room for this redesign, the bottom part of the special enclosure trays was lowered just below plate level, so pay attention not to reorganize these plates." Sure, it's not an elegant solution, but it works. I did (and do not) want to re-draw these boxes from scratch.

Oh thanks for replying! From what I see, these three stack on top of each other, right? Reading your comment, I've opened the project from the scratch and reprinted the ones below but they're still all the same size!?

@Lipe Yes - they are supposed to stack. I just re-downloaded the 3MF from MakerWorld and checked it in Bambu Studio. The dimensions are correct. When stacked, the total height should be 50 mm: - Pavilions & kiosks box: 18 mm - Player tiles box: 20 mm (20.003 mm in the file) - Special tiles box: 12.7 mm, but it is intentionally shifted 0.7 mm below the plate, so it prints as 12 mm From your first photo, the stack looks higher than +0.7 mm, which usually means one of these things: - Maybe the special tiles box was moved flush with the plate (+0.7mm) - Maybe one of the top modifiers was accidentally moved (+ ? mm) - Maybe you printed Player tiles box twice instead of player tiles box + special tiles box? (+8 mm) If you’re using Bambu Studio, I’d suggest selecting each part and measure, or using the measurement tool to verify the heights. A caliper works too if that’s easier. The design itself is correct as uploaded.

Excellent remix and really appreciate the consolidation of the token+building models. Considered giving 4/5 as the intention of some of the modifiers and adjustments are not intuitive and can easily be messed up*; However, its understandable considering what you were working with. *I ended up having to reprint several trays. The first one is kind of on me, as I had mistakenly adjusted the offset modifiers for the card and tray of trays thinking I had accidentally bumped them at some point. The bigger culprit though are the 4 sunken trays, since these adjustments can easily be lost if moved to another plate and auto-arranged. I'd suggest slicing those layers off, rather than moving them below the plate as they currently are. Willing to share colored print profile on request. Seems I forgot to save my final adjustments and will need to go back and fix the sunken trays bit I just mentioned.
