Faces or Vase? 3D Printed Rubin's Vase Optical Illusion
Hey Makers!
Prepare to have your perception challenged with my latest Hueforge project: a 3D printed version of the iconic Rubin's Vase optical illusion!
What is Rubin's Vase?
The Rubin's Vase, developed around 1915 by Danish psychologist Edgar Rubin, is a classic example of figure-ground perception. It's an ambiguous image that can be interpreted in two different ways:
- Two Faces: You might see two faces looking at each other in profile.
- A Vase: Or, you might see a vase or goblet in the center.
The fascinating part is that your brain can typically only focus on one interpretation at a time, and it can flip back and forth between seeing the faces or the vase.
My Hueforge Interpretation:
I've recreated this timeless illusion using just two colors of filament: black and white. The careful layering of these colors using Hueforge creates the striking visual effect, making the faces and vase pop!
Printing Details:
- Filament: Black and White PLA (or any filament of your choice that produces these colors)
- (Include other important print settings like layer heights where color changes occur, etc.)
- Make sure your bed is level for this print.
Tips and Tricks
- Having a clean print surface will help achieve the best result.
Challenge your perception and print your own Rubin's Vase! I encourage you to download the provided files, experiment with different black and white filaments, and share your makes. Let me know in the comments – do you see the faces or the vase first?
Happy Printing!
Thank you for your time and business. I hope you have a great day! Keep on printing!
