D8x3 mm Round Magnet (20PCS) - CA008

Description

Magnetic key fob hiding box is large enough for most car key fobs, and can be used to hide keys or other items under a car, magnetized to a metal part of the car. e.g. You might store your car keys there while going into a water park, or going to the beach, or having someone else pick up your car.

Requirements

  • 20 8mm×3mm magnets

Warnings

WARNING: Not intended for vehicles in motion!

NOTE: Do not attach to anything hot like your exhaust.

The model uses twenty 8mm × 3mm magnets. 12 are used in the base, to attach the box to the vehicle. 4 are used at the top of the base and in the lid to secure the lid.

Printing

0.2mm layer height and standard settings are fine. Nothing fancy.

Pause the print at layers 18, 38, and 168. Carefully put a small drop of CA glue in the magnet slots, and then press the magnets in, being careful to stay away from other magnets. The orientation of the 12 base magnets doesn't matter, but pay attention to the magnets used to attach the lid. Those groups of four should all go in the same orientation as each other, and opposite to the other group.

I like to attach Scotch tape strips to the magnets ahead of time so I know they're oriented correctly, and the tape keeps you from gluing your finger to the print.

Customization

If you want to use a different magnet size, the Fusion file has magnetHeight and magnetDiameter parameters. You can also change the general dimensions of the box via the height, width, length parameters.
