Metal Gear Solid kickstarted my absolute love for Japanese Mechas, and Plastic Gear REX wants to be a homage to the classic videogame by Hideo Kojima.
While I tried to maintain most of the functionality, I adapted some joints to the reduced size. It's still fully articulated, and inspired by the various Metal Gear REX models commercially available.

SIZE: about 8-10cm tall.

Tolerances of this model are pretty tight, so it will require a certain degree of force to push the pieces together. Make sure to always push on strong parts and not thin ones (but that’s obvious :P ). Also, protect your thumb with a glove or it will hurt like mine, after hours of prototyping.

If PLA is still too hard and brittle for you, don't hesitate to use PETG! I actually encourage you to try PETG for the joints at least. I did not include a PETG profile because I don't have any to test with, at the moment (might come in the future)

SUPPORTS: While I strived to make the model without, I had to use them here and there to be a little more faithful to the original Metal Gear Rex. Most of them snap right off, but you might require pliers for the toughest ones, like the upper leg/ball joint insert part.

Might need:

  • Pliers
  • Hobby knife (for the supports leftovers, if any)
  • Patience (Really, don't rush it, some pieces are small and fragile)
