Description
Please keep all these small parts away from children and pets, some parts have pointy ends, and they could be a choking hazard too. Make or use these models at your own risk.
If you find these for sale on Amazon , Etsy or anywhere else, they are not being sold with my permission. There are no "authorized" sellers of these models. They were made for the 3D printing community, not for Amazon or Etsy sellers to profit from.
Dummy 13 has been bugging me to go see Santa this year, so I took it to the mall and it did the whole sit on Santa's lap and tell him how it was a good Dummy 13. But when we left it told me (in binary) that it was concerned that Santa may have been too busy with all the human kids to understand it's wish list. So it's cutting edge AI logic has decided to make the trek to see Santa at his North Pole compound, which I suggested could be a bit rude, especially at this time of year when Santa and his elves are busy making the final preparations for “the big night”. But Dummy 13 was not convinced, and “thinks” that the only way to make absolutely sure that it will get a PlayStation 5 this year, is to go to where they are made, and make sure one of them has it's name on it. When a dummy gets an idea in it's CPU like that, it's sometimes best just to let it run with it, and try to make sure it's safe.
Dummy 13 is already a highly skilled adventurer, and it's got a full battery, so I had no worries about it's abilities to go on it's North Pole quest, but it did need some new gear. So for my early Christmas gift to Dummy 13 this year, I decided to get it a full kit of brand new winter sports equipment. This new Dummy 13 Alpine Adventure pack has a bunch of tools to help Dummy 13 climb the most challenging ice wall, test it's programming against the steepest double black diamond run, or call for help if Google Maps sends it to North Pole City, Oklahoma instead of "the" North Pole.
The kit includes a backpack (and first aid kit) to keep whatever stuff a Dummy 13 needs, a pair of skis with poles, an ice axe, survival knife, flashlight, a radio, a wrist watch to keep track of daily steps, and even a helmet and headlamp to protect Dummy 13's plastic noggin… with more plastic. With all that gear, Dummy 13 should have no problem getting to Santa's frosty North Pole compound…if it can make it past Santa's elite Elf-a Force security perimeter (maybe I should have included some wire cutters in the pack). And as an extra gift, I told it that I would fully test out the PlayStation, and make sure all the games work, so it will be ready to go when it gets back home (probably sometime in January).
Printing info:
The included 3FM has everything set up for printing. The model has integrated supports for the helmet and backpack, so you will see a warning about unsupported overhangs, which can be ignored (since the supports are integrated). The 3MF designer profile includes a multicolor and single color option, as well as a multicolor helmet on a separate plate. The separate helmet only (three color) plate is there to help with the materials cost if a different color helmet is needed (it's more "poop efficient" to run the helmet separately if it has to be a different color). I printed the parts in PLA to test them, so I recommend using PLA if possible. If using PETG or other materials, please post a comment on how that works with this model. Generally, I expect that PETG will have a bit tighter fit on some parts, but it should also work.
A few notes about adhesion:
You can use a smooth or textured plate, however the profile is set up for a textured plate which will help with adhesion. If you feel your smooth plate has good adhesion, and want to try it, please post a comment on what plate you used and how it went. The frame on this update has been optimized to add new features that help hold some of the more problematic parts down, but due to the small features, promoting adhesion is still important.
Some suggestions for promoting adhesion when printing this model are:
- Clean the build plate with dish soap (I use Dawn which seems to work very well for this).
- Textured PEI has generally better adhesion performance than any smooth plate, so try using a textured plate if you have issues.
- If you have an open frame printer (like the A1 or A1 mini), try to place your printer so it is not in a drafty area, or under or near an HVAC return, if possible. Temperature swings caused by drafts can cause many issues, including adhesion problems.
- Use glue if your build plate supports it.
- You can also add a brim or paint on "brim (mouse) ears”, to assist with adhesion in the slicer.
Extra Stuff:
From the pics, you may have noted that the skis and poles clip onto the backpack. The skis are designed to replace the front “toe” of Dummy 13, so to use them, remove the toe and install the skis (see pics below).

When the skis are not being used, they can be snapped onto two mounting points on the backpack (which are designed in the same way as the foot/toe socket on Dummy 13). The ski poles (as well as some of the other gear) can be stored on two clips located on the side of the backpack, when not being used. The ice axe also stores away in the backpack. The fit may be a bit tight when it is stowed for the first time, but if it is cycled a few times it should loosen up a bit. If you use Lucky 13 Toy's Dummy 13 - simple display stand, there is a mount point on the bottom of the backpack, which will accept the regular Dummy 13 “Stand Adapter”. This will also work with the “Icy Ledge” wall mounted display stand remix shown in some of the pics.
If you like the “Icy Ledge” seen in the pics below, you can find that model, which includes an optional LED holder, at the following link:
