Update 2024-11-30 - Replaced default print profile with V2 modelÂ
TL;DR:Â
We have replaced the default print profile with a V2 model. This new model is improved at the top layers shape and the inner top is changed to a dome shape to reduce the overhangs. These changes donât affect how the ornament looks from the outside but should enhance the printing quality. We ran 3 test prints with the improved model, 2 with our silk filament using Bambu Silk preset, and 1 with Bambu PLA Basic using Bambu preset. All 3 test prints were successful.
Hope this can resolve your print issues. We appreciate all your feedback and help! Happy printing :)
Debugging process if you are interested:
Thanks for all your replies which helped us find a possible solution for the print failures. We finally reproduce the âwobblyâ print issue by PURPOSELY NOT using the recommended filament print setting. This is done so that we can create a more challenging print condition for testing purposes. We used the local brand silk filament printed in Bambu Silk preset (The local brand silk PLA requires a lower temperature setting and slower printing speed), and the issue was reproduced.
From our observation, the issue wasnât caused by adhesion, but due to insufficient cooling. At the end, the object is stuck to the extruder and knocked over after layer 230 where the top bridging part is. The center part is where the print speed is dramatically slowed down because of the bridging, as shown in the image below.
Because silk filament swells, (this is why the shape of poop is different for the normal PLA filament), it causes tiny layer height difference when the print speed changes dramatically. The 15 edges in the lower layers also have overhangs which increase the difference when bridging. The bridging layer height will be slightly higher where the print slows down and filament swells more. As a result, when printing the next layer, the extruder will be touching the swelling part and knocking down the object. In our case, it even started sticking to the extruder. Normal PLA may suffer from this dramatic speed change as well because the filament shrinkage may be different depending on cooling condition.Â
To fix the issue, we tried slowing the printing speed for other parts to ensure a consistent cooling. This increased the success rate but didnât 100% resolve the issue. Hence we made changes to the model itself. We improved the top layers shape and changed the inner top to a dome shape to reduce the overhangs. These changes donât affect how the ornament looks from the outside but should enhance the printing quality. We ran 3 test prints with the improved model, 2 with our silk filament using Bambu Silk preset, and 1 with Bambu PLA Basic using Bambu preset. All 3 test prints were successful.
We have replaced the profile with the new V2 model, hope the change can resolve your print issues. We appreciate all your feedback and help. Happy printing :)
Update 2024-11-29
There have been multiple reports of print failures, mostly with heat bed adhesion issue, but we can't know the true reason without reproducing the issue ourselves. When we were testing the print, the brim was really hard to remove so we didn't expect the adhesive issue. Here is our setup for your reference: Bambu Lab P1S, with textured PEI plate, and Bambu Lab PLA Basic Red filament. Our machine has anti-vibration feet to help reduce vibration, and the humidity level in AMS is under 25%. We also avoid touching the plate directly with our hands as much as possible, and regularly clean it with soapy water. Every setup variation might result in slightly different print results, so if you are experiencing issues, it will be helpful to let us know your setup. If we can find a common pattern, we have a greater chance diagnosis the true issue better.
There are 2 print profiles trying to address the adhesive issue: 1) increase the base size and make the âobject to brim gapâ smaller. 2) increase wall loops and infills to make the object more steady (kindly provided by Steve Bickle). Wall loop and infill increase are now applied to the default profile as well.
Feel free to try them out / add your print profile. This may help others to have a successful print. Also including Bambu Lab Wiki's guide for common quality problem and PEI plate cleaning guide as follows:
