Description

Hello! I was working on a project that involves a reciprocating rack and pinion, and so I decided to model and print this to demonstrate the mechanism for a youtube video. It is a super easy print. Sanding may be required.

**Read Before Print** The base and rack can both be printed upright or on the (flat) side. If you want the mechanism to work smoothly I recommend printing both pieces upright with supports. You can print the base without supports by selecting critical regions only, but I would still recommend supports. If you want a faster print, printing both the base and rack on its side will save about an hour and 20 mins.

Thanks for checking it out!

Cool mech. Easy to print and put together. You have to keep it straight up or it gets out of phase.

The pinion loses engagement with the rack when rotated left or right. The gear mesh does not remain fully constrained, making the mechanism unreliable in operation. Also, the pinion gear is not adequately separated from the backboard, allowing it to easily get caught and unable to move. The demo video conveniently hides these defects. Seems quite disingenuous.

Threaded parts don't fit. Many supports reqauired , and in removal they broke some of the gear teeth.
