Description

Bring a little bit of Hyrule to your tree this year with a Legend of Zelda inspired snowflake ornament featuring the royal family's crest.

  • Print time: One snowflake takes ~50 minutes
  • Stealth Ornaments: print them in white and Grandma won't even notice
  • Big or small: they scale up or down
  • AMS ready: Pre-painted.

Want another? I also have a heart container snowflake as well.

Trouble? Questions? Comments? Please don't hesitate to get in touch!

Printing Tips

  • Thickness: I find that 3mm has the right amount of stiffness but feel free to scale Z if you want to reduce print time. The tradeoff is the ornament will become flimsy.
  • Purge volumes: I've calibrated them to reduce waste, but you may need to recalculate for your own filament
  • Plate: A textured plate is recommended because of the texture it gives to the bottom of the ornaments. Be sure your plate is extra clean to ensure success because the snowflakes have a detailed first layer.
  • Keep it cool: allow the plate to cool before removing ornaments. Thinner models can warp if they're pulled off too soon.
  • Keep it clean: clean build plates help detailed first-layer models stick.

Print Settings

  • Elephant foot compensation: 0 (it helps the first layer stick)
  • Wall Generator: Arachne (Classic walls make the top surface look sub-par)
  • First layer speed: 15 mm/s (helps things stick better and not be dragged)
  • Brim: none

About the Model

I've long admired Star Wars-themed snowflakes and I was surprised to find no 3d snowflakes for Legend of Zelda. After googling paper models for inspiration, I came up with my own designs. I made two variations: this one and another one featuring a heart container piece.

Once I had the model created, I couldn't decide which colour combination I like best. The white is great because you can fool non-gamers with it. But the green and gold one is just so OG Link and really pleasing. It's so hard to choose!

Filament used in display models:

  • Red Silk PLA (Hello3D)
  • Jade Green Silk PLA (CC3D)
  • Glorious Gold (Spectrum)
  • White Silk (Hello3D)
  • Sky Blue Silk (Spectrum)
