The Jiemo Dao-inspired Knife: A tiny box-opening knife
Print Profile(1)

Description
A handy little box-opening knife, weighing only 2g
Inspired by the Jiemo Dao, a type of knife-money cast during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods (770-221 BC) in the Qi state, specifically in Jiemo (present-day Jimo, Shandong). These knives, measuring 18.5 centimeters in length and weighing approximately 60 grams, were highly valued, with none surpassing those from Jiemo. The reverse often features three horizontal lines below a star-shaped mark, either "▲" or "Φ". Inscriptions of one or two characters are commonly found beneath, such as 化, 日, 工, 甘, 吉, 上, 行, 司, or longer phrases like 辟封, 安邦, 十化, 大行, 法昌, and nearly 20 others. The rarity of unearthed Jiemo Dao makes it a prized piece amongst numismatists.
